Grayson adds £2m to value of Scotland’s Rhodes! 
SIMON GRAYSON has warned any club tracking Jordan Rhodes that going public with their interest is likely to make Huddersfield Town even more determined not to sell.
The Terriers were left angered last month when Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed that the Lancashire outfit had made a bid for the striker.
It was rejected immediately but Town are likely to have to field even more interest in Rhodes following his first senior international goal in Scotland’s midweek win over Australia.
Grayson said: “Everyone has a way of dealing with their own business. We do ours privately but Blackburn decided to do theirs publicly.
“Sometimes, things can be done to unsettle a player. Sometimes, things can be done to get the fans on their side by saying, ‘This is the ambition of our club and where we are looking to go’.
“I don’t discuss our business in public. And, sometimes, when you do it publicly then it rattles the team you are trying to buy from.
“That can lead to the team being even more defiant in not selling him.”
Rhodes, who was the subject of an unsuccessful £5m bid from West Ham in January, netted 40 goals for the Terriers last season and will return to the starting line-up tonight at Cardiff City after missing Monday’s Capital One Cup defeat to Preston North End.
Grayson said: “The offers we have had in don’t get anywhere near our valuation. Until someone decides they will make an offer that we think is anywhere near then they may as well not bother.
“They can come out in public and say what they are saying. But they know the starting point in terms of a price. If someone reaches that level, maybe we have a problem. But if they don’t then we have no problem.”
Asked if Rhodes netting his first goal for Scotland could alert other clubs to his prized asset, Grayson replied: “I think someone would have had to be away from planet Earth for the last two years not to know about Jordan. Forty goals in a season means everyone knows about him anyway.
“Okay, it might have brought him to a bigger audience in terms of Europe. But all the big teams in the Premier League and Championship know about Jordan.
“The one thing it does is add a couple of million to his price tag. He has proved he can handle international football. Jordan has a big future ahead of him.
“People will always question whether a player can step up but I think Jordan has a natural ability to score at any level.”
Danny Ward is Town’s only injury doubt tonight.
