Vincent Tan statement: Cardiff City owner explains decision to sack Malky Mackay
27 Dec 2013

Cardiff's controversial Malaysian owner speaks out after Mackay's sacking, insisting: 'Far too much dirty linen has been exposed in public, and not by me'

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has spoken out in the wake of Malky Mackay's sacking as Bluebirds manager.

The Bluebirds owner admitted the unseemly events of the past few months could not be allowed to continue, apparently criticising Mackay for making elements of the duisupute public knowledge.

In a short statement, Tan said: "There has been a good deal of publicity generated by and about Mr Malky Mackay over the last few months.

"Indeed far too much dirty linen has been exposed to the public gaze. But, I stress, not by me. Indeed, I have deliberately not responded to this, hoping that the Club can be judged on its football rather than personalised arguments about who said what to whom.

"I have, however, regretfully concluded that it is no longer fair to the Club, its players, its fans, or the public more generally, for this uncomfortable state of affairs to continue. Cardiff City Football Club means far too much to us all for it to be distracted by this."

Last week, a leaked story from inside the club revealed Tan sent Mackay an email telling him to resign or be sacked in which he listed a number of grievances, including Mackay's work in the transfer market

On the same day, Tan publicly hit out at Mackay after he told reporters he was targeting three January signings without consulting the club hierarchy first.

He didn't care for us when he changed the colours and badge so why does he care now! Idiotic hypocrite!

Don't forget, Malky backed the re-brand so I presume you are glad to see the back of him and didn't chant in his support and are not therefore a hypocrite.

Vincent Tan is a fcuking fruitcake. Now he makes a statement that says 'fair for the fans and club'? He couldn't give a fcuk about the club or its fans. Whilst he owns us, nothing is safe and he will continue to make increasingly ridiculous decisions with complete disregard for us, the fans. All I want for Christmas is a new owner and our colours & badge back. Had a complete titfull of Tan.

Yes I know that and he explained why he was doing it at the time. But Malky backed it publicly and that's a fact.People don't generally like uncomfortable and inconvenient facts.

He was an employee of Tan and was put on the spot by journalists. Why would he speak out against the rebrand? His job was footballing matters only.. Your point is?

And you think his 'reasons' for the rebrand were satisfactory?

It was basically down to the fact that having done a financial assessment Cardiff and s Wales could not financially support a PL club in terms generating super revenue and he needed to find a way of expanding the catchment to generate the required dosh.Take it at face value or not but it's a reasoned decision. At the end of the day he offered a deal and most fans took it. Some didn't and now some want to eat their cake and have it too.Quite a few haven't got a scooby what they want and will blow with the wind. There are a few with unspoken agendas.Any way you look at it he has so far kept to his side of the deal.
I think we should give the guy a bit more respect. At the end of the day he will exit at some point and perhaps there could be a change back to blue then if that's what the new owners want.In the meantime the club has been saved and we play on.

Come on mate, we all know this 'reason' was flawed!
Success generates revenue just ask the clubs who rake it in in the Far East , a multitude of different colours between them:
Real Madrid, Man U, chelsea, Barca, Liverpool

Well, it was Tan's money and his decision and who are you or I to say he was wrong in his judgement.
I would also say that the clubs you refer to are established brands with 50 years of established international/global recognition and I am afraid CCFC does not have that cachet.
Tan's money has at least kept us alive and given us a chance to grow in the PL if we can stay there.

Just wanted to echo scunnytiger

As a Newcastle fan Ive had six years + with a sole owner who could not give a flying **** about our supporters our heritage or our city and knows nothing at all about football.

Your doing great as a set of fans - keep it up and the best of luck sorting Tan

just remember - support the team - not the regime !
