Turner out injured..

Postby SBF1 » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:49 am

BEN Turner has delayed his Cardiff City debut after ‘tweaking’ a groin in training.

The 6ft 4ins centre-back, 23, stretched to block a shot at Cardiff's Vale of Glamorgan Resort training ground and felt his groin go.

“It’s no more than a tweak,” said manager Malky Mackay. “He blocked a shot and opened the groin slightly.

“He was going to be involved against Leicester in the Carling Cup and has been ahead of schedule, but we won’t take any risk, no matter how small.

“It’s nothing major, but we will see how it is for a week or so. It’s not something the medics are unduly concerned about long-term, but we have to be careful.”

Mackay is set to name a changed side for tonight’s cup clash (7.45pm) with the Bluebirds due to face Leicester again in the Championship on Sunday in a match being shown live on television (1.15pm).

“Leicester are very tough opposition,” says Mackay. “They have enough in their squad to put out two good teams out against us.”

When Leicester City return to South Wales on Sunday both teams are likely to stick with unchanged teams from last weekend when the Foxes won 1-0 against Brighton and Cardiff produced an outstanding display in their 1-1 draw at Blackpool.

Cardiff City face successive Championship home matches – against Leicester on Sunday (1.15pm) and Southampton next Wednesday (7.45pm) after tonight’s cup tie.

Ticket information for both matches is available from the Cardiff City Stadium ticket office on 0845 345 1400 or online at www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk

Hardly  Very common for players who've been out for a long time to get minor strains toward the end of their rehab.

If the same thing is happening come the end of October there may be cause for concern but in the meantime, in the words of Corporal Jones, "DON'T PANIC !!" :ayatollah:

Certainly hope that he's not another Rigott. We actually paid some money for this Turner bloke. Did read, though, that he passed a very rigorous medical. Hopefully just a precaution. The medical staff seem to be better organised this season. :ayatollah:
