Trevor Birch has become director of football operations at Tottenham Hotspur.

Shortly after their 2-1 pre-season win against Forest Green Rovers at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea City confirmed that the 62-year-old had left his role as club chairman.

And Spurs have since confirmed that Birch has joined the club.

The former Liverpool player has been appointed to a new board - which will be chaired by Daniel Levy - at the Premier League side.

Birch became chairman of Swansea in April 2019 following the exit of Huw Jenkins two months earlier.

In a statement issued by Swansea City Football Club, Birch admitted he leaves the Swans with "a heavy heart".

“I am leaving Swansea with an extremely heavy heart,’’ he said.

"I arrived at the club at a very difficult time, but I hope I have provided professionalism, stability and a solid foundation internally which will stand the club in good stead going forwards.

Paid a visit to the Planet.
If I read it correctly the new investor (Silverstein)wants to be more 'hands on.' At the same time the owners have also had the club up for sale.
Sounds a mess but no doubt the investors have a plan - which is what it has always been -to exit and take their return. Perhaps he's their exit.

Correct me if I am wrong but birch had a reputation for getting clubs out of trouble is his resignation an admission of a lost cause

Not sure where any of that information is coming from. Yes Birch has left for Spurs, he was always a temporary measure and don’t think anyone in their right mind felt Birch was a long term chairman. He is someone that goes in to clubs to stabilise them and move on, his career is clear.

However to clear up some inaccuracies:-

- We just spent nearly a million on Jamal Lowe. A player many on here wanted you to bid for.

- We still are getting parachute payments due to being in the Premier League for successive seasons. Ours run out the same year yours do (next season).

- We didn’t lose our academy status. We decided to downgrade as paying £4m a year for it in the Championship isn’t sustainable. It was intentional, it wasn’t an accident.

Will he make it through the Winter, before he's had enough, or been sacked?

Why would his appointment signify a tough time for us? :?

What impact do you think a Chief Executive has on a club then out of interest?

Last post on the subject I know you will try and bend the truth and make this to be a positive but it's not just this bloke its for a few reasons.

Lack of investment from your owners.

Still an inexperienced Manager, did well last year, let's see what he does this year?

Brewster has gone plus loads of other players massively weakened squad already.

Grimes is off to Villa rumour, an important player for you to try and adequately replace.

Accadamy downgraded due to lack of funds and staff leaving due to this.

Your stadium is rusting and you don't seem to have the money to keep it sutably maintained.

Experienced Executive, very well thought of and did a job job for you last year, replaced by some no mark, and his previous clubs fans are very pleased to see him go.

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/about ... departure/

You are owned by Americans, this is your football man, you already have many fires burning this guy looks more like fireman Sam than Red Adair, but time will tell, lets see what happens and where we both finish at the end of the season?

It’s not a positive or a negative. It’s a back room director leaving and being replaced. It’s hardly going to rock the club to its core, Birch came in to do a short term job, as is his forte.

Lack of investment from owners. What do you mean by that? They have put the same investment in as any other owner we have had in the past few decades. We don’t want external investment, never have. We have done just fine without it. We went to the Premier League and stayed there for 7 years without a penny of external investment.

Inexperience doesn’t mean much. I’d rather an inexperienced good manager than an experienced bad one. In his first full season he got us into the playoffs, that’s more than most were expecting. He won’t turn into a bad manager overnight.

Yes there is some rust on the stadium. Not sure why that will affect our prospects on the pitch though? It could be dyed pink for all I care. It isn’t our stadium, it’s leased.

This chief executive knows more about football than Tan, I’m sure you will agree. A chief executive runs the business deals of the football club, very little to do with on field things.

I understand the urge to try and turn everything into a sensationalist headline but it would carry far more weight if you focussed on some actual negatives.

Replacing Brewster for one, that’s one that is absolutely something that we have to figure out and a legitimate concern. The rest is just reaching.
