Looking at Strachan Travel, been away with them before always well organised.
They are doing 8 days 6 nights hotel in the Marriott all transfers for £750
You may save a few quid doing it yourself but personally I prefer somebody else take the strain.

Good on you!
Yes, I'll be there. It is being held in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi province. I have lived in Guangxi for just over eleven years and it's only one and a half hours by high-speed train from me.

I'll probably be looking at getting a reasonably comfortable hotel for about 15GBP per-night. However, I don't blame anyone booking in advance, just as Llantwit Blue said ... let somebody else take the strain.
If I was flying from the UK I'd probably look at getting better value flights to Hong Kong rather than anywhere in mainland China. Stay a night in Hong Kong (fantastic place!), then travel by high-speed train to Nanning. Once you've arrived in Nanning I would recommend you don't spend the entire time there (it's a nice city, nevertheless), I would strongly advise taking the short trip to visit Yangshuo ... one of the great natural scenic wonders of China, breathtaking scenery and good nightlife there too and cheap accommodation - you won't regret visiting.
Yangshuo is a popular destination for travellers from every corner of the world as well as the native population too.

The Strachan price is for all flights and the 6 nights in the Marriott.
The visa looks to be £180 not sure if you can get it any cheaper.

Would have loved this but I woke up so distraught after the Irish game, I booked a mini break for me and the wife in Iceland on that very weekend. It be more than my life's worth to cancel it. Very cheesed off.

That is a fantastic deal! I'm not sure how they manage to do that - flights alone can cost close to 700GBP!
Visas ARE cheaper to obtain in Hong Kong but usually the process requires that you deposit your passport and collect it the next day, you might feel uneasy about doing that on a short stay.

We are going with Wonky Sheep Events, 10 day trip to Beijing (3 nights) and Nanning (5 nights), price from £1,095 per person (based on 2 sharing a room), 4 of us already paid the deposit. Has anyone booked with these guys before ?

At that price I am seriously tempted, one to tick off the list
