" CALUM CHAMBERS NAMED CAPTAIN / RUBIN VICE CAPTAIN "

Fri Aug 01, 2025 1:01 pm

Calum Chambers has been appointed as captain of Cardiff City Football Club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Chambers takes the armband following the departure of Club legend Joe Ralls earlier this summer, with Rubin Colwill named as the Bluebirds’ new vice-captain.

Calum joined the Club in the summer of 2024 and played an important role in both defence and midfield last term, making 42 appearances and scoring two goals, including a Goal of the Season contender against Middlesbrough.

A boyhood Bluebird, Academy graduate Rubin made his First Team debut back in 2021, and has since featured 155 times for the Club, scoring 14 goals with ten assists.

Agree with Chambers being captain. He's the most obvious choice of the players at the club.

Rubin as vice captain is interesting, he does know the club and obviously been at the club for such a long time.

Only choice he had

So where will Chambers play?

Makes sense. Wonder if he’ll persist with him at centre back

Not true. Could have chosen Alnwick as captain, he was captain a lot of last season.

Could have chosen Salech, Robertson, Ng etc - all been mentioned on here.

Could have chosen anyone for vice captain.

That's interesting to me as I don't think chambers is a centre half it's either full back or defensive midfield

Why have you got to make an issue out of what I say is it because I don't agree with what u say about bbm? I said yesterday in a post it has to be chambers there's really no one else unless you want a kid to captain the team

Chambers solid choice hes more gobby than the others in midfield and loves a challenge lead by example.

As for Rubin I asume its a final gesture to prove himself ,play every game for 90 minutes , work the opposition, score at keast 10 goals , and destroy those in Div 1 he is alledgly far better than !!!! .. Wales is watching Rubin as are potential Championship clubs , if he clicks January will be interesting?

Because you're making out there was no choice to be made when there clearly was.

The obvious choice out of the current squad was Chambers with his experience.
I expect him to be in central defence, but we'll have to wait and see.
Rubin as vice captain is an interesting choice.
But one thing for certain, he is likely to play most matches, if fit, this season for a change, which should make him a better player in the long term.
I'm happy enough with these decisions.

I think Chambers is the logical, sensible choice. He has Premiership experience and I agree with him being given the responsibility to use his experience to lead us.

The Rubin vice captain choice will hopefully work similar to Warnock making Adel Taarabt captain for QPR. The added responsibility will hopefully make Rubin knuckle down to consistently perform.

Rubin Colwill will captain the team on Saturday as Calum Chambers is suspended.

Colwill being captain for the first game doesn't fill me with confidence but I hope he steps up & does well, this season has to be his last chance to show some consistency.

Right choice by BBM.

I think it could be the making of Rubin Colwill.
Good luck to the lad.

I've got no issue with this. Champions league experience. Should be one of our ever presents; hopefully will give him a lift and he should be too good for this division.

Delighted for Rubin aswell, and same as above (excluding the champions league bit!)

Come on then gents, lets get behind them!!!

Have to say I’m a bit surprised, especially with Rubin as vice captain. I was expecting it to be chambers as captain but with Alnwick, wintle or ng as vice. However bbm knows the group a lot better than me so I’ll go with him. Might be a stroke of genius, giving Rubin more responsibility to help him grow long term.

Jesus. I mean Colwill???? This has to be a joke right to deflect away from the programme’s???

Chambers all good there. Maybe the boss has worked miracles with him and it will pay off. But as in stands my rising opinion of the bosss has just taken some massive steps backwards. This to me is worrisome.

I’d play chambers at right back and introduce Kapacio for cup games and when Chambers needs a rest. Also we have 3 good other centre halves - Fish Lawlor and Darland.

I wouldn't put him anywhere near the defence. He stood out (slightly) when pushed into midfield.

Centre of the park. Go and dominate the division.

I'm sorry I don't rate Darland at all, I think we need another centre half and a left back to sure up the defence.

The choice has been made and some like it and some don't, anyway let's get behind the lads and give it some shit and show these players what Bluebirds fans can be like when they have something to cheer about, last season's gone, we fu***d it up hopefully this season we'll have something to cheer about.

I agree with you on darland for such a big guy he's gets knocked off the ball pretty easy mind you most of our defence last season and preseason this year nothings changed we defo need reinforcements defensively

Wow that’s exactly what I said yesterday to my brother the extra responsibility hopefully will get the undoubted talent that Colwill possesses to be shown consistently :old: :ayatollah:

Rubin may be a bit of a surprise but I hope it’s because BBM has worked with Rubin in the pre season and man managed him well.

Hopefully he’s told Rubin how much of a difference he can make as he’s going to be involved more this season and not just on the bench constantly.

A good old fashioned “arm around him” and a bit of a pep talk might give Rubin the boost he needs to kick on

Great choice of captain.
Hope he plays in front of the back 4 and not part of it. Gets caught out and gets booked taking one for the team and yellow carded when he’s in the back 4.

Great decision this...rubin maybe will take this added responsibility to excel his game...

If he clicks, it won’t matter because the asking price will be far too high.
