A forum for all things Cardiff City

The Times’ Gary Jacob is reporting this morning that Cardiff City have had a bid accepted by Toulouse for Etienne Capoue.
Supposedly that bid, with add-ons and clauses, amounts to £10m.
If there are any Cardiff fans who are nervous about their club spending that kind of money on a player from Ligue 1, don’t be – Capoue would be a superb addition to Malky Mackay’s midfield.
I’ve written about the Frenchman many times on this site, and in connection with some very illustrious clubs – with good reason, too, he’s an extremely complete player. By definition he’s a holding-midfielder, but one who is relatively progressive and who does score goals (7 in France last season) and does have a creative element to his game.
Capoue is a proper athlete, someone who loves a tackle, is very handy in the air, and who has the kind of intelligence to sit in front of a back-four and disrupt the attacking phases of an opposing side – he may not have quite turned into the player we all expected him to, but he’s still only 25 and would be an outstanding signing for a newly-promoted side.

Cardiff are set to beat Arsenal and Tottenham to the signing of Toulouse star Etienne Capoue after agreeing an £8million fee for his services.
North London duo Arsenal and Spurs are both long-term admirers of Capoue, with both making bids during the January transfer window.
Toulouse turned them down and insisted he will be staying for years to come, but Cardiff have now convinced them to sell.
According to reports in France, the Premier League new boys have struck an £8million deal with Toulouse for his signature, and expect to finalise his arrival in the next few days.
Arsenal and Tottenham are known to still have an interest in the France international, but are unlikely to make a late attempt to hijack the move.
Cardiff will reportedly offer Capoue a four-year-deal with wages of around £65,000-a-week, that would include a buyout clause if the they suffered relegation next season.
The Bluebirds have been chasing a tough-tackling defensive midfielder for most of the summer, but have seen bids for Victor Wanyama and
Gilbert Imbula fail.

I was thinking the same, first time I've heard his name mentioned.

65k a week?
i hope thats some sort of sick joke.

It seems Wales Online have changed tack slightly and are now saying its an enquiry and not an accepted bid. The player is also not keen on the move.

I would not take much notice of those figures it's probably quoting in euros which is around £55k but I very much doubt that nobody apart from the two clubs involved would know the real figure, the wages in France are not that great, and I also doubt that he is on an exceptionally high wage

We wont be paying 65,000 a week, at most 45,000 which is still very high.

If we want quality players the wages mentioned above are what we'll have to pay to attract them to City.
These are premier league wages not championship.

Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue hopes to leave the club this summer in search of European football.
The 24-year-old has been with the club for his whole career, making his debut in the 2007-08 season and racking up over 150 appearances.
The France international has been linked with Premier League duo Arsenal and Tottenham as well as the likes of Paris St Germain and AC Milan, though coach Alain Casanova is hopeful he will stay with the Tefece.
"If he wants to keep me, that is good," Capoue told L'Equipe.
"That says that he counts on me, that he is happy with me.
"But it is football. I feel it is the moment to leave, to play in big competitions."

Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran has reportedly told the French press that they have accepted an offer from Cardiff City for Etienne Capoue.
Sadran is quoted as telling L'Equipe that other clubs will have to match the bid from Cardiff to stand any chance of winning the race for his signature.
Midfielder Capoue has been linked with a move to English football for some time and Queens Park Rangers are rumoured to have had an offer for him rejected in January.
Sadran recently admitted that he would be prepared to let the 25-year-old leave for the right price, and reports in France now claim a transfer fee has been agreed worth €10million plus add-ons.
It is also reported that Capoue is hesitating over his future as he expected a contract with one of Europe's top sides.
"Now the clubs interested in Etienne have to know we will not accept any offer inferior to the one from Cardiff," Sadran said in L'Equipe.
Cardiff have bolstered their ranks this summer with the record signing of striker Andreas Cornelius, but he is so far the only new arrival and manager Malky Mackay has urged fans to remain patient.
The Bluebirds are gearing up for the new Premier League campaign after winning the Championship and kick off the season away to West Ham United.

In advanced for several weeks with Atletico Madrid discussions , Etienne Capua (25 years) always wants all join the Spanish club. If the first offer Mattress (€ 7.5 million) has not convinced the president Olivier Sadran Toulouse, a second should follow quickly after a recently convened meeting of the leaders on both sides to the table . The Téfécé, which granted a release to his midfield (174 games in L1 in the Toulouse colors) seems ready to release the player in case of offer of € 10 million.
Provided that the challenge pleases Capua. A few days ago, the native of Niort and, according to our information, refused to join the Cardiff FC promoted to the Premier League next season but will not compete in the European Cup. The Welsh club had yet proposed 10 million requested by Sadran. The new offer coming from Atletico Madrid to Capua, on the verge of signing for Monaco earlier this month, could be very close to Cardiff and make a difference to the Toulouse president.
Still Toulouse yet, Etienne Capua came late in the game against Montpellier in a friendly on Tuesday evening on the lawn of Béziers (0-0). But nothing says it will still Toulouse in the next game preparation players Alain Casanova, next Saturday against Rodez (CFA).
What`s wrong with that translation?
It`s better quality English than a lot of the posts on this board

Seems like he's holding out for a move to Atleti but they don't want to/can't pay more than what Tolouse want, we have paid what they wanted.
I can't see him coming here due to the fact we're not in a European competition and the pull of the Premier League isn't as big as people make out.
Fees being banded around, 8.3m, 9.5m, 10.6m and even 12m.
The neutrals are livid at this if it happens, Arsenal fans really pissed off they haven't tried etc, some saying would be a great coup nd definitely worth the money

@_liam94 No Liam - they did enquire, believe they were told he would cost 11m euros. Nothing else yet. He is one of several possibles.
Terry Phillips @ElTelPhillips 30m
@rhyspect26 That will drag on Rhys. Toulouse will try to force the price up and want more clubs in. Is one of several City midfield targets.

What we can determine from the Wanyama deal is that Malky or Tab will not be pushed about regarding the price of a player. If tolouse try a bidding war that will not wash with Malks and he will tell them to jog on
