Is a new ball needed?

Mon Dec 24, 2012 6:44 am

Is todays incident with Robin Van Persie and Ashley Williams yet further proof that a new type of ball is needed?

Its obvious that the balls these days can be a VERY deadly weapon if used in a callous and disgusting manner like Williams did today. Like Ferguson said, he could have quite easily killed him or left him with severe neck damage.

Its a clear indication that football needs to evolve. I believe the balls that should be used should be those shown below;

They are lighter and therefore do not carry any weight when travelling at any distance. These balls move about in the air a lot more than regular footballs used in professional games currently which will leed to more exciting games and although it will be harder for goalkeepers at first to get used to they eventually will after some training.

The pack shown above includes the home version - red and black pattern - ready made just for Vincent Tan. There is also the blue edition for the away games. This pack is £5 on eBay so also cheaper in terms of manufacturing costs.

We go on a lot about health and safety but this is just one of those issues where something needs to be done. We need to kick dangerous footballs out of football as soon as possible before someone is killed. In the past year we have had minor incidents like goalkeepers being assaulted by fans and coins thrown at players but nothing on this scale. Its truly horrendous.

The only problem we will have if we use them is we won't see a change in Mcnaughtons deliveries :lol:

still to deadly in my opinion, maybe its time for football players to just pretend theres a ball in play, that way no one will be at risk

I think we may have to introduce the 'Kick footballs out of football' campaign. :roll:
