Malky Mackay backs fans to be difference against Palace

MALKY Mackay has declared Cardiff City Stadium will be ‘rocking’ for the much-anticipated Boxing Day clash with Crystal Palace.

The Bluebirds soared four points clear of their big promotion rivals by beating Leicester 1-0 on Saturday, while Ian Holloway’s Palace drew at home to Huddersfield.

Another victory on Wednesday would see Mackay’s men extend that lead over Palace to seven points... and Mackay reckons the special Cardiff factor will help his side.

“Our supporters will turn out in force again and the atmosphere is going to be fantastic,” said the Bluebirds manager.

“The whole stadium will be rocking.”

More than 26,000 watched City play Peterborough in their last home clash and a sell-out is expected on Boxing Day

“Palace have quality players in a squad who have been together for a fair time,” said Mackay. “They are capable of causing problems, but we have plenty of quality as well.

“Our match at Leicester was a fantastic advert for Championship football. We produced quality on the ball, while the speed and tempo of the match was incredible.”

The Bluebirds will be missing Matt Connolly for the big game, the defender suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season against the Foxes.

His absence opens the way for Kevin McNaughton to return at right-back, although Aron Gunnarsson is another option.

Palace will be without Damien Delaney after he was sent off in their 1-1 draw against Huddersfield.

Mackay will utilise his squad over the next three matches in a seven-day spell.

Palace at home on Boxing Day will be followed by Millwall at home next Saturday and then Birmingham away on New Year’s Day.

Even though our home atmo is poor I do like the way he has respect for the fans and wants us involved.

You never hear managers at other clubs go on about the fans in after game interviews but he does that quite a lot.
