Analysis: Bellamy class shows Cardiff City have right promotion credentials

WHAT does it take to be a Championship champion?

Over the campaign you need passion, energy and quality to conquer and, in Craig Bellamy, Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay knows he has all three wrapped up in a bundle of brilliance that the rest of the Championship can only envy.

One of the most demanding divisions in world football tests the stamina levels to marathon runner proportions every season.

It’s a nine-month slog where you can never relax, with a tantalising Premier League pot of riches waiting at the other end.

Over the campaign you need passion, energy and quality to conquer and, in Craig Bellamy, Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay knows he has all three wrapped up in a bundle of brilliance that the rest of the Championship can only envy.

Time in the treatment room has restricted Bellamy’s impact this term – “two innocuous injuries from high-tempo collisions”, reported Mackay – but there were signs in the recent 4-1 thumping of Blackburn that the Wales striker was returning to his fearsome best.

That was underscored here as Cardiff sent out a festive statement of intent on one of their most difficult away days to deliver the perfect Christmas present: a three-point lead at the Championship summit.

The proven quality came in the 25th minute, an unerring strike from 15 yards after Craig Conway had cut back a clever cross into his path from the right. A goal good enough to settle any game.

The passion and energy was there throughout as Bellamy linked with team-mates and chased down defenders, never allowing them a moment’s rest in possession.

Bellamy has been brilliant. I had a feeling he'd just come back and play out the
rest of his days so he can earn a few quid close to home. Not arsed.

I was wrong. He is inspirational. Our best player by far, our star name But he does more running than
the energiser bunny.

Brilliant example to the rest of the team :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Spot on Taff the way Bellamy was chasing down the Leicester back 4, even in injury time, was absolutely fantastic to watch. In fairness there we many players who put in a great shift on Saturday but in my opinion Craig was the shining example to the rest of the team.

Taffy, Bellamy was excellent against Blackpool and Brum and he has been very good against Blackburn and Leicester but if I was asked who has been our best player this season it would be hudson by a country mile. :ayatollah:
