if malky took us up this year do you believe he is the right man to keep us up because most of his career as a manager and player as been spent in the championship ... i know brendan rodgers kept swansea up without playing first team football but he was at chelsea as a coach .............. whats your thoughts?
Sun Dec 23, 2012 11:25 pm
If he takes us up he's earned that right to manage us at a higher level.

Absolutely ridiculous assuming we get promoted. Are you saying if/when we do are you suggesting we sack MM?

im just wondering if he would have the know how and connections to keep us up .... relegation [if we went up] in our first season would be a disaster! .... if we go up, we really need to stay up!

let's get there first - that's far from assured at the moment!

Yes it would be, however he would be a legend getting us to the prem, at least he should be given a chance to consolidate surely?

YES YOU ARE 100% RIGHT MATE LETS JUST SACK THE FIRST MANAGER EVER TO TAKE US INTO THE PREMIER LEAGUE. I UNDERSTAND YOU 100% YOU TALK SENSE I WISH MORE PEOPLE HAD A BRAIN LIKE YOURS.
Mon Dec 24, 2012 12:25 am
Let's bloody get there first.

To even answer this question you need to ask yourself are you a Cardiff city fan or a tw*t?

A reasonable question and my honest opinion is the MM is the only man for the job. He has moulded a team not a bunch of individuals and the first season will need teamwork. It's not a computer game whereby you can change your entire squad overnight or that our owners will drop a shit load of money into MM's lap. He's going to need to work with most of the squad he has with perhaps a few additions here and there to provide more depth. As much as I hate to write this some of the players who have given their all over the last few years will perhaps have to be released. The Jack Bastards haven't done too badly without splashing the cash and given MM's progress to date, I think he's earned at least two season's to prove he can do it.
That's if we get there, long way to go yet, no point eating yers eggs before they're fried
Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:31 am
He's the right man unless we can get someone with an established track record of consolidaing teams in the premier league
such a breed as allardyce, pardew, redknapp, o'neil ,
Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:44 am
IF we get there, it could go either ways, we could be like Swansea in their first season where they kept the same manager and sort of the same squad with a few additions and done fine or we could go down the QPR route where we change our manager, gradually over time and lose our squad that got us to where we are, where we wouldn't have long term stability, with Malky he thinks about the future of the club, not the short term future.

It's not a reasonable question at all.
How can you question any manager before he's even had the chance to do anything. Malky is the best manager we have ever had. To go from having 9 players from the start of last season and getting to a wembley final and losing on penaltys against one of the most successful clubs in Europe and now being top of the league at Christmas an then questioning if he's good enough your having a f*cking laugh.
He might have had backing and money to spend but what's that got to do with anything. Mark Hughes had a lot more to spend. What's he going to be doing Boxing Day?
Sometimes our fans are a joke, we won't be signing Giggs we won't be signing Beckham, Bent or anybody like that.
Could we be a big club? Yes
Are we a big club? No
Some of you have had a few to many trips to wembely

The OP posed a reasonable question KD, my response if you read it was that my opinion is that MM is THE man for the job, probably the only one. What he's done so far as been a near f*cking miracle and should be given at least two seasons IF we get there. Then it will up to MM and our owners, he'll want to push Cardiff City to be the best, if our owners back him in HIS way then I see no reason why he shouldn't be offered say a ten year contract. f**k Mark Hughes, whilst a great player, his managerial skills have cost me and folk my age the chance of seeing Wales on the world stage.
Yep some of our fans are a joke, some are stupid but were'll Cardiff fans at the end of the day. And yes I was there when we were shit. I still buy a season ticket even though I haven't lived in Wales for 27 years, haven't lived in the UK for three years and can't make the game on Boxing Day as driving a hired van from near Ystradgynlais back to London, needs to back at 17.30. If you want to borrow the card and take my seat can meet me on the M4 its yours.

Personal Opinion, I think MM is a better manager than Brendan Rodgers.
Time will tell ......
Mon Dec 24, 2012 6:11 am
I can say no more about this thread than...
Its the sort of question Angry Man would ask
Mon Dec 24, 2012 7:11 am
No we wouldnt because we are not expected to stay up even if we did go up unless we got a new squad of players worth lot of money otherwise MM keeping us up would be a bonus if we went up.
Mon Dec 24, 2012 7:24 am
I'll be honest AM, having thought about this tonight I will admit that given our owners that they might think 'right, we're in the Premiership, time to get in a known name who's been at this level before'. It honestly wouldn't surprise me.
Would we need a new manager? In my opinion no. Malky deserves a shot at the Premiership and to slowly add to his team if we go up.
Will the Malaysians get a new manager? Im not too sure. Once we're in the Premiership we're at a different poker table with the big boys and its Tan's money being used so obviously he is going to do as he pleases. For all we know we could go up and he could splash £50m on players and just bank roll us as some sort of toy like Roman Abramovich. We do not know how he is going to play it.
Is he in it solely for the money or for the image effect as well. We all know Roman is doing it to create a worldwide legacy associated with a well known club where he will be seen on thousands of TV screens. Has Tan got to the point where money isn't the issue but pride and self satisfaction are everything? If that is the case that doesn't mean he's just going to pay Sam either because business is business and with business comes pride and image.
He could quite easily pay Langston so to me the fact he hasn't shows a man who cares very strongly about his image and his businesses image and how they reflect on him. I think he'll heavily invest if we go up to be honest like QPR. If we go up and then come back down he will feel like a failure and he will want to make sure there is as little chance of that happening as possible.
I think in the next 10 years, if we do go up sooner rather than later both us and Swansea will be real forces in the Premiership. They will most definitely get some form of investment in the next decade and I would not be surprised to see them start signing some quality and even break into Europe, just being realistic. Its a very interesting time to be a fan of a South Wales club, unless of course you support County.
Mon Dec 24, 2012 7:57 am
With County and Wrexham doing well in the Conference it would not surprise me if next year we returned to having 4 sides in the football league.
This has to be good for Welsh Football and the development of some of the younger players.
Mon Dec 24, 2012 9:32 am
Yes, Paul, I would love to see Newport and Wrexham back in the Football League. Hopefully, Merthyr will soon follow in a matter of years. Imagine five Welsh clubs in the Football League!
As for a new manager if we get to the Premiership. Well, if we get there then we have to stick with Malky. Will he keep us up? I think he's a fast learner. He does make mistakes but he rarely, if ever, makes the same mistake twice and that is a really hard quality to find in a manager. I hope Malky stays with us forever. He's my favourite manager that we've ever had not only for what he's done on the pitch but for the way he carries himself and the attitude he has regarding the game. Such a great role model and inspiration.
Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:36 pm
really think you are the one who needs to get a grip. 5 months away from the end of the season, and you are already hypothetically sacking a manager for not being good enough in a league we havent even reached yet

In all honesty, this is actually a very good question.
My answer to this would be No, for numerous reasons. The current team we have at present are all playing for the manager and the jersey, they all want to play football. To remove the manager in my opinion could have a disatrous effect on the team.......could the work ethic disappear? due to new manager way of thinking and philosophy of football management.
for example look at danny graham at Swansea....when playing under Malky and Brenden he had an excellent attitude towards the game, change of management has created a change in lifestyle outside football (going by rumours....but also from what we can see i.e. lack of match fitness)
In my opinion, Malky would have earned the right to manage in the premier league, and as a player hes had experience playing in the division, unlike Neil Warnock who always played league football in his career and struggled to adapt to the premier league, but always made an excellent league football manager.
I think its very important to carry the momentum from the winning championship team into the premier league, and its important not to make to many changes to the team. Look at QPR, when they got promoted, they try to buy every star player, which had a significant impact on the team.
Where as when Hull first got promoted few seasons back, and Swansea recently, they bought only 3-4 players to compete with the first team and had major benefits for their performances and the reasons for staying up.
Tue Dec 25, 2012 3:12 pm
Malky makes good transfer decisions. He doesn't like ego's, he'll only sign players who will work very hard. He will be a gem in the PL.
Tue Dec 25, 2012 8:42 pm
if he got you up then he deserves the chance to manage in the prem and not to get the tin tack if you lost a few games.
