what was football like on the pitch in the 70s and 80s ? for the older generation among us.

i.e

was the game as fast ?
was their players who had the skill and pace of the likes of ronaldo and messi ?
what was the biggest wage ?
was it better back then ?

Its hard to compare era's. for a start until spurs bought villa and ardilles and ipswich got some dutch players in the league was mostly british players. Also the playing surfaces were awfull especially at places like the old baseball ground and even old trafford and chelsea.there were players with skill.....tony currie, alan hudson, frank worthington etc but they were not looked after by refs like the players today.the wages were good in the 70s, probably 10 times the average wage.........but not the obscene wages we see today.I dont think the gap between the top div and the bottom was as big as it is today either. also fans paid players wages then and were much better thought of by clubs than they are today.

When Franny Lee left Man.City for Derby in 1976 he was the highest paid player in the 1st Division earning £1,000 a week.
