Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay to welcome back captain Mark Hudson

Dec 19 2012

Malky Mackay will welcome Cardiff City’s ‘man mountain’ back at the heart of their defence in this Saturday’s Championship crunch clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Captain Mark Hudson will go straight back into the Bluebirds’ starting line-up after serving a one-match suspension and manager Mackay says: “He is one of the most consistent players we have, a model professional who sets high standards.

“You can count on one hand the amount of games Mark Hudson has had where he dips below the standards he sets week in, week out.

“At both ends of the pitch he has been a man mountain for us.”

Hudson was ruled out of the home defeat against Peterborough after being booked five times this season, a suspension which ended his ever-present record for the season.

He has scored four goals from set-piece moves.

“Mark was always going to get that fifth booking, we knew it would happen,” said Mackay. “He’s available again and back in the squad for this weekend.”

Mackay will stay silent on what his team to face Leicester will be, but it looks certain Hudson will be captain and step back in alongside Ben Turner at the heart of their back four.

Matt Connolly will then resume right-back duties where he has been a success.

City’s unbeaten six-match run – five wins and a draw – came to an end in the shock defeat against Peterborough, while they now face a three-match run-in to the end of the year when all of their opponents – Leicester City away plus Crystal Palace and Millwall at home – are top-six rivals.

Tommy Smith is almost ready for action, but Mackay won’t rush one of Cardiff’s most influential players, saying: “Tommy is a hugely important member of our squad and we want him fit for the second half of the season.”

He was pretty poor in his first season although was never as bad as people made out, claiming he would never be better than league two/conference defender

But since then he has got better and better, he was excellent last season and again this season, a true captain to everyone oh watches us (except Blake)

Welcome back Huds, You were badly missed against Peterborough not just for your defending but also your organisational skills.

People forget that he was very good during 2010/11, too. Not just last season and so far this season!

I was happy he got stuck in, I hate it when players pussy out for the fact their one away from a ban.

He has been fantastic this season and when you got him on the pitch its a good feeling as all the players respect Hudson as he has respect for the players around him.
