Gabby Zakuani unrepentant over Heidar Helguson horror tackle

Dec 19 2012

Zakuani is a regular on Twitter and said: “About time I got some new enemies, my old ones have warmed to me and actually like me now lol.”

“Why were Cardiff fans booing me? "

Gabby Zakuani, Peterborough United’s Congo international defender, is unrepentant after his challenge on Bluebirds striker Heidar Helguson at Cardiff City Stadium.

Malky Mackay was astonished when a free-kick was given against Icelandic centre-forward Helguson – and then furious when Posh defender Michael Bostwick smashed home the first goal in Peterborough’s shock 2-1 win.

Former Stoke City and Fulham defender Zakuani, though, tweeted via his regular ‘@Gabs50Zakuani’ account: “Why were Cardiff fans booing me? Lol ref gave free kick not me. Me and Heidar both Kung Fu kicked each other ”

Zakuani then had a dig at manager Mackay, tweeting: “I’m very disappointed that their gaffer (Malky Mackay) said I ‘flew into that challenge showing six studs’.

“It was eight not six lol ”

Zakuani is a regular on Twitter and said: “About time I got some new enemies, my old ones have warmed to me and actually like me now lol.”

Mackay was far from happy when referee David Coote awarded Peterborough a free-kick 25 yards out when it appeared Helguson had been fouled by Zakuani, saying: “I thought it was an incredible decision.

“I asked the fourth official and he was honest enough to say the same.

“He thought it was a booking for the Peterborough lad.

“When you look at it on the television Heidar kicks the ball and their player comes in five seconds late showing six studs.”

While City reflected on their first defeat in seven matches, having secured five wins and a draw from the previous six, Posh celebrated a first win in nine.

Manager Darren Ferguson rated the result as ‘undoubtedly the best result I’ve had at Championship level’.

The return match at Peterborough’s London Road ground is on Saturday, March 30.

I see new guidelines are out regarding prosecuting offences posts on social medias like twitter and facebook. These guidelines basically will cut down on the prosecutions. That is it will become more difficult to stop bullying or offensive behaviour.

In a day and age where bullying is becoming a concern I find these guidelines going against the flow. The only real reason behind these new rules is money. The CPS claim the whole criminal budget is in danger of being taken up with these cases. However there is an avenue for those who feel they have been bullied and want to bring a prosecution upon their adveraries. Its called the high street soliticor.

Justice in this country is for everyone, just like the Ritz hotel.

Football players have been whinging about abuse they get on twitter. Zakuani posted these comments on twitter therefor leaving himself open to abuse. My post is an elaboration of what he can expect and what recourse he has.

Just makes himself sound like a bit of a tit to be fair. I don't think any cardiff fans could care less about him

Thats really pathetic of him to say that via Twitter. If he was a high profile player playing in the premier league he would of been fined. :o

He's right, though. Referee made the decision and it was a pretty clumsy challenge by both players. I haven't seen Mackay say anything about City failing to defend the free kick either. He's having a joke about it and why not.

Boasting about a bad tackle. The blokes a prick. Had it been Joey Barton or Roy Keane they would be banned for a stupid number of games.

Finished reading Phil Dwyers book last night.

If Joe was still playing that wanker would never do it again. I doubt he'd set foot on a pitch again the jumped up little c**t.

Think its slightly tongue in cheek. Him and Helguson are mates from Fulham days and apparently Helguson used to batter him in training he said.

I have no idea why people are upset by it. The ref made the call and it's not like the tackle caused anyone physical damage. The ref should have been the one to be constantly booed for being such a tit. But let's not let these peripheral issues take the attention away from the fact that we were shockingly bad. I wish we had had a midweek game to get things going again rather than wait another week. One defeat doesn't need knee jerk reactions but it was woeful wasn't it!
