Why did Millwall play tonight?

Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:00 pm

The game tonight seems to have been brought forward from boxing day, so millwall don't have a game whilst we play palace. They'll be nicely rested for our game - seems unfair?

Footballing tradition is being killed off more and more every year. We'll have our off season through the winter soon

It definitely favours Millwall, and our opponents at the top of the league.

Dutch Ray has posted plenty of evidence on twitter this season on teams playing in the CL, then playing a domestic league game 3 days later. The results show a very favorable pattern towards the teams that did not play 3 days earlier. So much so, that the Dutch league are to introduce Sunday fixtures after the week where teams have been involved in Europe.

For the life of me, I cannot see why this game was moved. If Millwall were at home, maybe the tube strike - but this game is in Brighton??

No Train problems from that part of London down to Brighton. Nothing wrong with getting a bus to Victoria or London Bridge.
It's not as if there's 20 thousand of them traveling is there?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was a police recommendation given Millwall's reputation.

Or maybe they didn't want too many games on in London on Boxing Day so spread it out...

That's what concerns me. Tough game as it without any advantage going to them and we can hardly rest any of our best 11 when we have Palace

Does seem very unfair and for no reason

Brighton's stadium, as those who have been there will know, is quite a bit away from anywhere else. As such, a lot of Brighton fans use the trains and local buses to get to games as there's little to no parking at the stadium. In fact, this season they've introduced the local travel on trains or shuttle buses in the price of the ticket - I used it earlier this season driving down from Reading. No trains operating Boxing Day and would mean approximately 70% of Brighton fans wouldn't be able to get to game - so had to be moved and today was only available day. Bit unfair, yes, but nothing we can do about it unfortunately!

Well I don't really care and im a Cardiff fan.

At the end of the day, our players should just accept it and still get on with the job in hand.

Nothing to write home about is it really? Malky might bring it up and if so fair enough but the job is still there to be done.

Life isn't fair and Champions overcome hurdles. If anything, it is a test for our players.

Of course the players will accept it as they have no choice. The game itself is a test and often it's fine margins that can make the difference. Time will tell how much advantage they get from it, but there's no doubt millwall will benefit.

A lot of teams play wednesday & saturday - don't think it will be much of an advantage

At least we are home for both games

Games come thick & fast this time of the season

Injury free would be superb

If helgusson gets injured we will be knackered

Let's look at it on the bright side.

Millwall players are not preparing for a Boxing Day game so may take the opportunity to partake in excessive turkey and beer. Whereas the City players wil be fit as. :D

Makes sense! Works both ways though. Millwall played Leicester on Saturday, and again last night, while we have had a week free of games.
