I could do an in depth annalist of why City lost today, but what would be the point,we lost and we must move on to the next match..............but i have 3 questions i hope will be answered constructively on this forum.question 1....why does Whittingham feel the need to play so deep, its not the case that he does it in some matches and not in others,he constantly is playing in a very deep position,is he instructed to do this by Mackay,or is it the case he feels he has to do this because of his fellow midfield players shortcomings, question 2....why is Cowie being selected to play, when we all know there are far better midfield players available to Mackay, please tell me what does this player bring to our side......question 3,and this final question is not a flippant one, does Mackay know what his strongest 11 players are?,now before you all rush to shoot me down on this question, hand on heart, how many on here would have started the game today with those 11 players,i just thought of another question.....does Makay's use of substitutes fill you with confidence?

1) Whittingham played deep today because we never had an answer to their system. They kept getting players in the hole in between our midfield and defence very much in the same way Taarabt did it today for QPR. It's really hard to combat. Do the defence push up and risk players like Gayle getting in behind which we saw happen once or do we drop off? I also think he looks tired and was trying to reserve some energy for bigger games which is why I believe a loan shot at Ramsey or another type of creative central midfielder would be brilliant in January.

2) Cowie gets selected because he runs around and it looks like he is doing a lot. For example, like boxers who are continuously busy get gifted points by some judges in rounds yet in terms of execution they've been quite poor. It just looks like they're doing more. To be honest, a lot of times this season he has worked hard and been combative in midfield. However, I do think there is a time and a place for his contribution and that is once we have gotten a decent lead in games.

3) A strong side is one that can rotate and still keep its strength. Its been hard for Malky because of injuries and Hudson missing out today. The problem is not so much the strongest 11 but the players knowing one another. McNaughton looked poor today and the lack of match time was clearly evident.

4) Substitutions are hit and miss for any manager. When they pay off, the manager takes all the plaudits. When they don't the player is the one getting slated for not making an impact. Look at the two subs last week, both Kim and Mason got on the score sheet. Even Mancini, Ferguson, Benitez and Mourinho have made terrible substitutions. Our manager is very young and learning.

1. Whitts - Malky's decision without a doubt. Sees hims as the playmaker in front of the back 4. He does it well but we lose so much of his main talent, his ability to make and score goals

2. Cowie - Simply a favourite of Malky's from his Watford days. There is no way he should be played ahead of Gunnar, Mutch or Kim

3. Best 11 - Probably does but is being clouded by his loyalty to Cowie and been pressured into playing Conway who is a good player but not deserving a place on the pitch ahead of Kim or Joe nor Smith when he he is fit. To be fair to MM both Smith and Maynard would be in his first 11 but for injuries and Mutch isn't yet up and running after his injury

MM's probably intended Best 11 would be:-

Marshall
Connolly (would have been Mcnaugton originally)
Hudson
Turner
Taylor
Smith
Whitts
Mutch
Bellamy
Hegusson
Maynard

And looking at that, for me there are better right and left backs out there that need bringing in in January plus someone like Austin to replace Maynard

All the post-match analysis in the World counts for shit.

Cowie was superb at Blackburn, so was Whitts.

Fact is, Peterborough were well up for it today. Excellent performance. In our
faces from the first minute to the last minute.

We KNEW they were going to get at us, but subconsciously, the players took them too
lightly.

Malky and the players dropped the ball today.

Shit happens. To EVERY team in the World.

Its how we bounce back. We'll be fine

I agree we took them too lightly. You could just sense it all week.

I also agree that it would have been criminal to change the sstarting line up unless forced after last weeks performance. Everyone was saying how balanced we looked last week and how our team could rival brazil 1970 team. Yesterday showed we still have a long way to go. Credit to Ferguson, he got the tactics spot on and the way they broke so quick off our corners was unbelievable and it caught us cold every time.

1-whittingham played to orders,he has stated many time he doesnt like playing so deep because he knows he dont infleunce the game as much
2-cowie aint the gifted of players but he always gives 100%,we cant have 4 luxury players in the midfield
3-i dont think malkay knows his best 11 and even if he did,the way football is these days with different tactics and formations, playing the same 11 week after week aint the way forward
4-mcnaughton had to be changed im surprised it didnt happen earlier,i personally would have brought on mason but rudi did score
