Can understand Malky's decision to start with the team that so impressed against Blackburn except for the enforced change but it was so evident early on that we needed to change formation today. A manager can be excused not doing this with a threadbare bench but we had so much talent on the bench capable of changing the game.
We were being completely overrun in midfield and not withstanding that so many of our players simply didn't turn up today, it was so evident that we needed another man in the centre. Cowie was very poor today and for me starts behind Mutch and Gunnar every day. He should have been taken off and both Mutch and Gunnar played in the centre alongside Whitts who would then have been given the space that Boyd enjoyed running the game as he did for Posh. Bellamy would then have moved to the wing to replace Conway.
Peterborough have recently changed to playing 3 at the back which allows them to pack the midfield which in turn enables them to catch teams on the break. It is clear to see how Posh manage to score goals with the players they have in midfield and up front. With such a formation, without out and out left and right fullbacks, you have to attack on the flanks. In Noone and Bellamy we have the players to fully exploit this but the left footed Noone was played the full 90 minutes on the right and the right footed Bellamy when he went wide played on the left. This is a complete waste of their pace and ability to get crosses in when they are always going to prefer to cut inside which is completely useless when 3 centre back are playing. Malky got this completely wrong.
Another wrong decision was replacing Mcnaughton at right back with Gunnarson. Yes Mcnaughton was useless passing the ball but the problems were in the centre and Gunnar was needed there where he is in goalscoring form.

I would have left McNaughton. Brought Gunnar on for Cowie, Gestede for Helguson and Mason for Conway. Would have had more impact

Agree. I thought Mcnaugton went off injured but that wasnt the case and was such a waste of a sub. Specially as Taylor was much worse. He needs to be replaced, I;ve been saying this for months
