City will change the seating when......

Thu Dec 13, 2012 11:30 pm

The new safe standing laws are passed

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20679867

After reading this and looking at the rail/seat system on offer I think the whole stadium will change when these are installed.

As the seating in the canton would need to be ripped out to get these in, I imagine the whole ground will be done soon after.

Could this be one of the reasons we gave publically thrown our names in the hat?

Slight conspiracy theory, or is my scepticism overtaking things!!!

Doubt they would have standing in the Ninian.
I still think most people would want a seat (then moan they can't stand).
I would think it would be the canton stand.

The rail seat colours are far less noticeable than the seats that are used today anyway and it will only be in the Canton. I doubt they'll change the whole stadium, yet. I'm all for safe standing, the atmosphere is far more important to me than the colour of our seats.

To be fair tho. If they did change them to this, then unfortunately the next port o' call would be red! All stands would follow soon after

I would hate the whole stadium to change to red, but safe standing is the way forward, it will make the matchday experience so much better

I agree! I miss old grange end, and the bundesliga certainly know the way forward. If we can fractionally replicate what Dortmund are doing then I'd be well happy.

Does anyone know if the Safe Standing areas actually result in increased crowd capacity?

Yes.

Signal Iduna Park - Dortmund - the seats for league games are up so they can let more in.

In the CL they are down so the capacity is lower.

I think the difference is around 15,000 for them - ~ 80,000 for league, 62,000 - 66,000 for CL.

it does increase capacity, as you can have two rows of people in one row, if you get me?

Wow, that's quite a difference.

Rail seats would put our capacity up to 30k roughly for league matches. :ayatollah:

I read somewhere that increase in capacity is in the ratio of 1:1.8.
So for every 1000 fans seated you can get 1800 standing.

I hope I'm behind a fit bird then and not a big fat dude might get a bit tight.
