" We can shock Cardiff City "

Thu Dec 13, 2012 8:49 pm

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson
DARREN FERGUSON has outlined his intent to produce the shock of the season at Cardiff City on Saturday.

Fergie brings his rock-bottom Championship strugglers Peterborough to the Bluebirds’ South Wales fortress with many predicting a slaughter.

Malky Mackay’s Cardiff are three points clear at the top, having won a record 10 out of 10 at home... and are determined to make it 11 straight victories when Posh come to town.

Ferguson admits Mackay’s Bluebirds were ‘magnificent’ in battering Blackburn 4-1 at Ewood Park a week ago tonight.

“It was the best performance I have seen from any team this season. They were magnificent,” admitted Ferguson.

But he warned: “Cardiff have got to be beaten at home some time ... and this might just be one of those games that turns our own season.

“No-one expects us to win, it’s bottom against top, a team going very well playing at home. Yet it might be one of those days.

“I’ve seen this sort of thing many times, and particularly in this league. Anyone can beat anyone... we know we can do that to Cardiff on our day.

“But I took lot of positives from our own last performance when we lost narrowly to Middlesbrough.

“We will look to take that sort of form with us to Cardiff.

“We won’t go there to defend. We will go there and look to win the match.

“With the players Cardiff have got, especially the four up top, if you sit back and give them easy possession it is only a matter of time before they pick you off.

“No, we have creative players of our own and will go there and look to affect the game ourselves.

“Cardiff have a lot of winners in their group, like Craig Bellamy. You can see that influence in their results. I would imagine him managing the dressing room with the enthusiasm he has on pitch.

“We will have to deal with that threat and energy, particularly at the start of the game.

“Give the ball to the opposition’s good players and they will hurt you. We must look to go to Cardiff and keep ball, control the game and nullify the threat from the likes of Bellamy.”

But he admitted the Bluebirds this season were a different proposition from the side which had failed to get over the promotion line.

“Cardiff have come close to promotion a couple of times, but what Malky has instilled in them is a winning mentality. That is the type of character he is,” said Ferguson.

“Yes, we know Malky has had lots of money to spend, but we have seen time and time again that doesn’t always work. He has instilled belief.

“They are going very well a the moment, there is no doubt about that. We will have to cope with their energies, work ethic and big players.”

Have seen many many times at both the old and new stadiums, Cardiff fail to get a result when big crowds have been attracted. For this reason alone I am not expecting a big win or even a good performance but unlike previous years I feel this team/squad will ensure we will come away with a win :ayatollah:

Darren Ferguson has confirmed exactly what I thought in my post earlier: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=99240

I would be thinking he was bluffing it was any other team, but like I said, Peterborough will come to us and attack because they are incapable of defending!

They will be looking to get the first goal IMO and them look for the counter.
Be an interesting game.

Every manager in the division will now be studying video of the City to see where
our weaknesses lie, how they can come away from The CCS with points in the bag.
Problem for Malky will be.. they are hardly going to tell him are they. "Oh Malky
I reckon if my team does A, B and C we can do a job at your place".. So games are
going to get tougher at home, Malky will be tested as a manager. So far so good!!
Ferguson has actually bigged his team up a bit and I think he's made a bit of a boob.

I agree, they could win this one - disagree with "Cardiff have got to lose at home at some point"

It isn't beyond the realms of possibility we could go unbeaten at home?
