Car Accident - insurance question

Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:24 pm

Hello fellow Cardiff fans.

My car got hit and run today! Luckily I have two key witness's who took down the car registration and actually reported this to the police this morning with crime number and etc. It turn's out to be a Taxi who reversed into my car who apparently stopped, saw my bumper fell off and drove off!

Before calling my insurance company, my question is does anyone know if it will affect my no claim bonus and will my premium go up if I managed to claim through the taxi driver's insurance? Thank you in advance.

I forgot to mention, my car was parked overnight when the taxi driver reversed into my car and knocking my bumper off! :(

Good question that.I suppose it depends on whether you've protected no claims on your policy or not. It'll be interesting to see how you get on.

It's not going to affect your premium if you dont report it to your insurance company. How can they alter it if you dont tell them about it.

If its official he'll have to produce his own documents as a matter of course.

Even though it wasn't your fault, and you weren't even in the car it is likely to affect your premium next year unfortunately.

You need to declare all accidents regardless of fault, and in most cases it will lead to an increase.

Seem very unfair!

If you tell them your premium will go up, it gets counted as a non fault accident, someone crashed into my car when it was on the drive, mrs phoned the insurance company just to let them know and when renewal come it went up because of the non fault claim.

Do not ring your insurance company,it WILL affect your renewal.Simply call a non fault accident management company such as Vehicle Assist 07817252057 ask for Simon Mace.I handle about 4 jobs per week such as yours.

You should be able to claim of the Guy who owns the taxi, it maybe the guy driving the Taxi done own it, but the guy who employs him and owns the Taxis insurances is liable. Also the driver has committed a crime anyway by driving off. Your insurance shouldn't be affected at all.

Hi CardiffBatman888,

It sounds as though your witnesses are keen to help you which is great! That will go a long way to helping your case. We could repair your car and provide a hire vehicle in the meantime meaning you'll experience zero downtime with regards to Christmas shopping..!

If you'd like a chat or to discuss your options further just drop me a message. I can be reached at amy@askwinns.com

Hope this helps,

Amy

Contractually (subject to the wording of your policy) you are required to report all instances to your Motor Insurer, within a reasonable period, irrespective as to whether you intend to claim or not. A reasonable period is often referred to as 7 days but is open to interpretation.

With most insurers it is regarded as a No CLAIMS Bonus and not a No BLAME Bonus.

Most insurers will work on the basis that the No Claim Bonus will be affected until such time as a full recovery is made.

In this instance it is very likely that the other person was insured. If you wish to check the Motor Insurers Database yourself you can go to www.askmid.co.uk and pay the £4 fee. I do have a Corporate licence but shouldnt really use it. That will tell you who his insurers are.

If he is insured and your vehicle was unoccupied it is very likely, at some time in the future, your NCB will be corrected.
