THIS STANDING THING!

Tue Dec 11, 2012 7:30 pm

Do you think we would have all seating stadiums if them fans had not been killed at hillsborough?
Because it was the ob to blame for that and not the fans !the stadium!or the fact it was a all standing bank.

I blame health and safety gone mad and this whole idea of eradicating any passion from the modern game by making fans sit down.

health and safety in this country has gone too far to the point where its the main hazard itself. The construction industry is struggling massively because of it and all this red tape rubbish and the tests you need to do for everything are just a money making machine. its really sad.

I agree as i work on site(in central cardiff of all places)and health and safety is a load of bollox.
It is a way to make money and its hard to get work done.
But back to the standing are the police to blame as the main reason behind no standing in stadiums!

Question for you Swansealad, how do we get away with the standing in the East stand at the Liberty? It's practically the whole stand... Surely a good argument for safe standing right there, because if they took the seats away and put rails in, it would be a damn sight safer than me cracking my shins and nearly going flying over the seats every other match.

sorry but the H&S bullshit is our own fault when you have people stubbing their toes and then suing for thousands or people having accidents because they're thicker than pigshit but knowing that a bumper pay day is only a phone call away what choice have employers got they have got to cover their arses , and until this culture of suing stops things are only going to get worse

Agreed...

Not sure why we are left alone to stand in the east.
Thing is not like cardiff when we moved fans could sit were they wanted as we were lower league and didnt fill the stadium week in week out so most of the lads went in that area.
At first stewards did try and there was allways some sort of kicking off but as so many just stood the club give up.

I am fully behind it, at the end of the day most people want to stand at football!

i dont think it was all the police's fault.

Re: THIS STANDING THING!

Lots a factors involved but for me if there hadn't been the heights of hooliganism then the fences don't go up. No fences and at least fans at Hillsborough could have spilled onto the pitch. I can't see the problem with standing areas in today's game and admire those who are having the balls to speak up for them

Agree with you in part. Over 95% of the blame has to go to the police but those that turned up without tickets also played a part in the tragic events.

It is the police it's much easier to catch a guy throwing something or doing monkey dances like a clown on CCTV if they are sitting down then if everybody's standing up.

I think it's a great idea - look at all the people that stand anyway, in the Canton Stand (with emphasis on the word stand, and pretty much every away end there is. So being able to fit in more people while making it safer at the same time with rail seats is perfect.

Well, lets put it this way. Those with out tickets (think there were thousands) were more than likely drunk, yes the Police shouldn't have let them in, but could you imagine the carnage the Scousas would've created for not being allowed in?

The problem after Hillsborough was that they took the seemingly easy option and just basically said standing = dangerous but seating = safe without really looking at all the options. Typical knee jerk reaction as usual in this country.

For me this has created problems not solved them. Supporters still want to stand so still stand up when they are seated. There is no barrier in front of them so the chance of them falling with only a slight nudge is even greater than on the terraces. The best option would have been to redesign the terraces. They could have done that with better strategically placed crush barriers, partitioning the terraces into smaller areas and removing the fences around the pitch.

The Germans love their safety regulations but they have no problem with terracing. Lets copy the Germans and bring back some atmosphere at games.

Health and safety is beyond, I had to move a Xmas tree at a old age pensioners home to get at a window but before i could move it they had to carry out a disk assessment. Back to the question I think we should have a standing area if the club wants it.

You don't have to have been born during an event to know all about it, I wasn't around for the Russian Revolution but I know plenty.

Working on site I had to contact an electrician to come before I could start work just to change a lightbulb. Caretaker told me that if I were to do it myself I would be reported. The weather was bad and the electricians were occupied so the company took 5 hours to come. Work put on hold all over something simple. Why not just turn off the electricity just to be extra safe (doesn't really need to be done but for the safety warlords in society), let me change the bulb, switch it back on and if it lights up its common knowledge that the bulb is working?

Add on the fact the electrician put in a CLAIM to say that he got injured whilst changing the lightbulb.

The country is backwards. That was the time I knew that I had to get out of that line of work. More paperwork than on the job stuff as well. Having to have tests on a yearly, biannually or every 5 year basis depending on what training etc it was. Massive money making scheme.

Those at the top of the industry are on the take as are those at the very bottom. The middle man, those who have their own businesses, they are getting screwed over. The upper bracket of the working class and the middle class getting done over big time by all the paperwork and nonsense with H&S.

Apparently, some clipboard suited up knob can tell you how to do a job better, a job he has in fact probably never ever done. Its ridiculous. One H&S inspector was on my case big time so in the end I just turned around and asked him to erect a scaffold tower then. He didn't have a clue so I told him to sod off home and get someone who knew how to do it. How can someone who doesn't even know how a scaffold is supposed to be put up be telling people that its not safe etc?

No different to TV license people and traffic wardens, scum of the Earth.

Also, one school in mid Wales has banned children from playing football on the school playground. They are only to play on grass.
