I don't know who gets the money but I do know it has notihng to do with the good of the people. It has everything to do with creating more revenue. Simple as!.

It was exactly the same with the carrier bags. The supermarkets campaigned for charging for them "because they care about the environment". Bolloxs, they did it because they saw how much they were spending on free bags. If they care about the environment as they claim then why don't they source goods from the UK rather than fly them accross the world.

Companies and the Government know man made climate change is total bull shit. But hey they use it to coin it in. A lot of people are given to much Benefits to go and buy Alcohol and that's a fact

Deaths because of Liver and Kidney disease is on the up..
The UK has the highest rates of deaths in the EU to this disease.

I have lost family to this disease.

All they are doing is capping it to about 48p per unit. It will still be cheaper than pub prices and you will see less multipack offers on shelves.

Average £1 a can and £5 bottle cheap wine.

Not so much of a hike tbh compared to what we are already paying.

Changing the price isn't going to stop alcohol abuse nor more than it has stopped people smoking. Alcoholics will just pay the extra. As for everyone else, putting the price up in the UK will just re-open the trade routes with Europe. You will also see an increase in people brewing their own. I make some very nice wines and it only costs me a bag of sugar each time. :ayatollah:

Well, well. If you say its fact then it must be true. The government think tank stats that says that working people consume more than people on benifts must be all lies then.

Re: Alcohol pricing

Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:50 pm

If they REALLY wanted to stop people drinking why not charge £5 a unit minimum? BECASUE THEY DONT!

They just want to raise more money in tax! They forget that the tax they already get from alcohol already more than covers the costs!

The problems in this country are NOTHING to do with price - they dont have the same problems in France where wine is 80p a litre in some supermarkets! :old:

Re: Alcohol pricing

Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:16 pm

Unless you're an alcoholic it won't really effect you. You'll still be able to get 4 pint cans for £3.60 minimum, not exactly breaking the bank.

Re: Alcohol pricing

Wed Nov 28, 2012 2:17 pm

Why don't they just charge people extra if they require medical help if drunk or by alocholisum

Re: Alcohol pricing

Wed Nov 28, 2012 2:21 pm

if your not an alcoholic then theres no need to worry about the rise in price of alcohol
if you are an alcoholic, well no ones forcing you to buy drink, its your choice, if you want to stop get help

Re: Alcohol pricing

all another way of getting extra money off the working class.. as if a bunch of kids who get drunk once or twice a week in a park or street are going to think "lads im going to give up drinking, as the cost of my 4 beers have gone up by a £1.00"

it is a joke and the sufferer is the hard working man on a low income, who may not be able to afford a night out, can now not afford a night in !

all the while numbskulls will proclaim it is a good idea

just like the green tax, fag tax etc it is designed to blind us into thinking they are doing us a favour

yet they abolished the betting tax, pathetic

I agree with this. Only harming those on a low to middle income whilst doing bugger all to prevent 'binge' drinking'.

Its also mean that these guys that go Mugging & breaking into people house will be even more active now. Which means the crime rate will go up even more .

Re: Alcohol pricing

nukes the green tax is a con.the govt fill the young uns full of stingesqe cack at school then sells em tv,s xboxs mobiles, ipads and the like by the medium of tv advertising  .this new pricing for booze is unfair for the hard working brit who is the backbone of the country.an alki will always find a drink.believe me.the smoking law is not what it seems too.nothing to do with anyones health.if it was they,d ban it.covering their arses for law suits more like.imagine the scene.a girl who doesn,t smoke works in a pub.the girl gets cancer and sues the brewery for it cos the pub is smoke filled ,why do you think bottles have drink responsibly on them?it,s not for anyones well being.it is a manafacturer covering their asses.

When I turned 18 a can cost about £1.25 roughly the same as pub prices, 20 years on the same can costs about 80 pence and pub prices are about £3.50.

I can't think of anything over the same time period that has actually got cheaper apart from maybe CD's :?

First and foremost you have to have support available to people who have a drink problem and want help.

I think they should also just give people on benefits a chunk of benefit in vouchers to stop alcoholism as surely if your in that position you shouldn't be spending all of it on booze. This and giving out massive fines to shops selling to underage people and regularly spot checking them by sending kids in to buy booze.

Leave the working man alone to have his well earned drink! And no way should you give alcoholics extra money either!!

they,d sell the vouchers lynd.believe me im a recovered alcoholic but when i was boozing if i wanted to drink it would take a hell of a lot to stop me.the mental craving /obbsession when not drinking drives alcoholics mad then once they have a drink they need another.food would be low down on an alcoholics list of priorities.i heard it was an extra tenner a week if you are a registered alki.i never was as i didn,t want the doc having it on his record.i worked but was slipping fast in the end.managed to get help .luckily before it went to the level some go to.i don,t know the answer but some of the crap sold in offies is given away.it,s that cheap.that white cider has never seen a apple  i feel for the working chap who wants a pint after work.priced out of the pub
