New statue campaign

Sun Nov 25, 2012 8:07 pm

Now we finally have a statue of Fred Keenor, I would like to raise the issue of another statue of a famous contributor to the formation of Cardiff City becoming a professional football club. Lord Ninian Stuart stepped in at the last minute to help secure the lease on what was to become Ninian Park, his statue currently stands in the gardens in front of the museum in Cardiff, surely a more suitable location would be at the sloper Rd, entrance to the new stadium in the garden of remembrance ( he was killed in battle at loos in the great war) facing the ground that carried his name for nearly one hundred years.

Totally agree that lord Ninian should be rembered in some way.

I like the idea of that, outside the Ninian Stand would be a nice spot for it. But As he already has a statue in Cardiff, I think it would be more fitting for Bartley Wilson, Phil Dwyer, Tosh, Brian Clarke or Eddie May to have a statue. Bartley Wilson was the one who formed the club so it would be right for him to have a statue.
But if we get promoted and all debt is sorted, and we end up super rich, then we could honour so many with statues.

Theres already a statue of him, opposite the museum. Maybe a memorial plaque at the CCF?

i was reading the cardiff city history book the other day and thought it would be a good idea to have a statue of Lord Ninian or Bartley Wilson, maybe have one of them together? how our stadium is set out tough i feel if we have too many it will look silly, having one of them would be amazing though, what other players could have one? phil dwyer, len davies? :ayatollah:

A very interesting idea, & one i would support. The statue would certainly look good situated near the garden of remembrance, opposite side of the gates, & overlooking the old Ninian Park site.

I'm sure it would be a very costly operation though.

How about one of Sam Hammam. We could put it on a track and have it moving around the track inside the stadium whilst everyone one singing "We want Sam Hammam walking round the pitch"

Somewhat divisive there Nukes. There is a minority who would likely prefer a hanging scaffold with them singing "We want Sam Hammam hanging from a jib"........

Isit anyway someone could start a campaign to get a stand named after the one and only Eddie May. Maybe the Canton stand as it seems like it won't get touched by sponsors. "THE EDDIE MAY STAND"

It might do, the Family Stand is called 'The Peters Pies Family Stand' and the Grandstand is called 'The New Law Grandstand'

I think it is a great shame the other ten f a cup winning players besides Keenor have not had any recognition?
maybe in bust form internally around the ground would suffice.
