Went to Wales v NZ Today and....

Sun Nov 25, 2012 12:31 am

Admittedly went alone with a freebie ticket from an old relative for which I was very grateful, but....

What a shite atmosphere, and we moan about lack of passion and singing at CCS! and these people are dressed up and supposedly more tanked up than we are on match day! It was like a library in there. Some guys were literally screaming and waving their arms trying to get a song going, I know how that feels as I do that in the Canton stand. I tried to help things along as i was a bit bored, sober and felt like Billy no mates but all to no avail. Brings new meaning to only singing when your winning. No exaggeration here, but not one song was struck up across the ground today. I am making a point of this as I have always heard the notion that on 'international day' the atmosphere is amazing and the singing is spine tingling, NO it isn't. Maybe in the seventies not any more, having the worlds best team today should have raised the roof in song, not even close, the biggest cheer before our first try was Prince Edwards face on the big screen, :? it was like a Wetherspoons pub in there today.

Enjoyed being in the Mill Stad again though, and always brings back goosebumps from Wales v Italy with Bellars winner, now there was an atmosphere. Great win for the mighty BLUEbirds though which made my wet day!! :ayatollah:

having said all that it was rather strange having all 15 players in a line out and winning a try from it

is that the first time that's ever happened in rugby ?

You said it, Tangled. The best atmosphere that I've experienced at the Mill Stad was Wales v Italy - FOOTBALL. I've been to many matches there, football and rugger.

More importantly, how's the job situation with you, mate?

I'm not a rugby fan, but I've never seen that before. Why don't teams do that more often?

cwmannbluebird i,m not a die hard rugby fan more of a casual punter but today that was something i've never seen before .

great for the neutral and perhaps the shape of things to come in the eggby world ?

who wants to see the boring kicking game on a weekly basis certainly not the osprey and blues fans looking at there attendances !

Went last friday.

The build up before the game is fantastic. Postive and friendly vibes.

I feel sorry for the players with no motivation or singing.

No surpise when 72% of the tickets go to all rugby clubs across Wales and competitions like Radio and Newspaper.

Went to town for a friends birthday and if football fans behaved the way these morons do then it would be in the papers. A disgrace to human kind.

Pretty grim thanks Nedd have a possible opening next week for a tryout as a carer, my wife is heavily involved with this field, not sure its for me but know it can be rewarding and fulfilling so willing to give it try as I expect Comet to be liquidated by xmas!

I think it's max 8 in a Line out like you said but the other players didnt come in until it was out of the air and into the maul. So I think it was a good tactic.
I did notice a few empty seats there though.

10 / 15 years ago when the tickets were £20 and went to the local rugby clubs it was fantastic.
Now I get snobby cunts offering me tickets for £100 because the companies can't sell them.
Still love rugby, but lost the love of going to see my country play.

Might be wrong but I think Ireland did it against the aussies years ago.

It's seen as a day out now.

A reason to get pissed.

Where are all these 'fans' when the clubs play on the weekend?

Football fans understand football.

The majority of rugby 'fans' don't have a clue about the game.

I went to a Wales international rugby match once back in the seventies at the old national stadium. Stood on the east terrace, not a fat bird in a cowboy hat in sight, 50,000 Welshmen belting out the national anthem made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, never experienced an atmosphere like that in any sport , people tell me it's nothing like that these days though.

I call them "eventers" - they're just out for the event and don't give a shite about rugby the rest of the time. The regions and the clubs in Wales are well down on crowds and in a poor financial state as well.

Mind you, the internationals are so dear, I can understand why they can't afford to watch too many other games, unless they're minted.

I went to one about that time and stood on the East Terrace. I had a free ticket from school, because one of my mates couldn't go, so he gave it to me. I honestly didn't think the atmosphere was as good as a football match. The best atmosphere I've experienced at a rugby match, was Wales v New Zealand at the Mill Stad in late 2004. Wales only lost 25-26 and Henson hit a post with one of his kicks, so Wales could've won it. They went on to win the Grand Slam in 2005, though.
