With City's youngsters :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Great to hear Malky, The youngsters are our future, if only Dave Jones had realised.

Young Ben Nugent is a future Cardiff City skipper - Malky Mackay
Nov 24th 2012

Malky

“I do not have a problem bringing in youngsters. I did it at Watford and did it last year here.”

' MALKY Mackay has predicted teenage centre-half Ben Nugent will one day captain the Bluebirds.'

The 19-year-old made an impressive senior debut when he came off the bench to replace the injured Ben Turner early on in Cardiff City’s gritty 1-0 win over Middlesbrough last Saturday. Nugent, born in Hertfordshire in Welwyn Garden City, could be set to keep his place alongside skipper Mark Hudson for the visit to Barnsley today.

And Mackay believes that Nugent himself wearing the armband for the club sometime in the future.

“Ben has captained our reserves at a very young age,” said Mackay.

“Since day one of pre-season he has just kept improving.

“He desperately wants to learn and that’s nice combination to have.

“There’s a lot of potential there. It’s early days, but from what I’ve seen so far – and I was a centre-back and I’ve seen a lot of youngsters coming through – if Ben keeps progressing he will probably end up captaining Cardiff City one day.”

Mackay has so far proved during his time at the Cardiff helm that he is not adverse to blooding youngsters in his first team.

Striker Joe Mason has made the step up while Joe Ralls has also blossomed.

Ralls came on against Boro and played in the unfamiliar role of left-back and Mackay says it is very much a case of ‘if you’re good enough you are old enough’ when it comes to giving youngsters their break.

He said: “It’s all about who can go in and handle a situation and who can be consistent.

“I do not have a problem bringing in youngsters. I did it at Watford and did it last year here.”

Nugent had two good games, scored one. Malky sees John as good enough to make the bench when needed, good times indeed :ayatollah:

We have a good manager who knows how to mix it up.With dj he never gave the youngsters a chance and when they did come on he would slate them for any mistakes made.Although DJ did a good job for the club Malky looks the real deal at the moment long may it continue.

Nugent done a lot of shouting and was telling the midfield to come back against Middlesborough.

Thomas their great talent but their both midfielders and we have a lot of strength so they aren't needed.

The Luke Coulson looks fantastic on the highlights I've seen. I hope hes good defending because attacking he looks the deal.

As you say - if only Jones has realised. I still remember after Chasetown - he still was against playing Ramsey that much, almost embarrassed into playing him...what if Aaron had started at Wembley...

Our academy has got to be one of the best in the country - the players we have developed have kept this club afloat.

joe ralls hasnt really made the breakthrough yet. Slighly surprised as he looked good last season, thought he might have had more playing time so far.
