Cardiff City support for the Safe standing Campaign

We are the 14th club to openly come out in support of safe standing areas.

Cardiff City back safe standing
23rd November 2012

For the fifth Friday in a row we’re delighted to announce that another club has backed the Football Supporters’ Federation’s Safe Standing Campaign – welcome aboard Cardiff City. They join an ever-growing list which includes Aston Villa, Brentford, Bristol City, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Hull City, Peterborough United, Watford, AFC Wimbledon and the Scottish Premier League.

It’s great news but the FSF also needs action from fans too. Words alone are not enough – please visit: www.fsf.org.uk/campaigns/safestanding
While acknowledging that they are currently “duty bound to enforce a no persistent standing policy in all areas of the ground” in accordance with Football League ground regulations the club called for small-scale safe standing trials and said they “regret” the Government’s current opposition to safe standing.

In a statement released today the club said: “Cardiff City Football Club regrets the Government’s stance in refusing to further investigate the possibility of safe standing at football matches. We continue to believe that the debate on safety has not been evidenced by empirical data or reports in practice.

“As such, it is the Club’s opinion that any standing should be dynamically risk assessed in conjunction with the local authority with subsequent recommendations and control measures put in place to ensure reasonable safety. To that end the Club supports the call on the Government to permit a limited number of small-scale safe standing trials.”

Cardiff City are the 14th club in England and Wales to back the FSF’s Safe Standing Campaign and the club’s statement was welcomed by Tim Hartley, chair of the Cardiff City Supporters Trust Chair. The fans’ group had made clear its backing for safe standing trials.

Hartley said: “Cardiff City has a sensible approach when dealing with fans who stand at crucial times during games. Some of our members would like to stand throughout the match and others do not. So we are glad that Cardiff has responded positively to the Trust's request to back a pilot for safe standing in football. We believe that clubs ought to have the freedom to offer fans the choice to stand safely in appropriately designed areas and we look forward to seeing the Government carry this forward.”

It's great that we're backing it :ayatollah:
I thought that the club would be against it considering the amount of angry stewards we have in the Ninian Stand

If this happens in our stadium, say they put it in the canton, would it be the whole of the canton end to have it or the middle?
I think there a bit ott down there for standing, fair enough if there's a guy behind you that can't see, but some of the time's me and my boy have been asked to sit and there's nobody behind us for about 4 rows, at the last game, there was two kids at the front, stood up, the steward told them to sit, didn't understand why, nobody behind them, and if there was they still would have been able to see because thee kids were only small.

I'm guessing you've haven't read into the campaign. Here's a photo of what the seats will look like if it ever happens.

Imagine how the Canton end would look with those right across it, amazing.

Would the seats be unreserved? Every time it rains there'd be nobody at the front, just masses at the back  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I think I read somewhere that the seats will still be numbered, but if you want to sit down you need to ask a steward to unlock the seat as they are locked up. It would end up unreserved though when a goal is scored.

No ive seen all this over the months, but does our backing it mean we will install these new seats? I doubt it. They can apply this ew rule without paying out for these seats. Also, is this intended through all stands...again, i doubt it.

I don't think the club would be backing it if they weren't going to consider installing the seats in our stadium

Do they need to install these seats though? Then again, its a clever way of introducing the change of seat colour.

I was thinking that, I actually wouldn't mind if the installed seats were red to be honest because it will only be the Canton Stand and the colour in the safe standing seats don't stand out as much as the seats that are used now.
