Ferretti, forgot about that one. He was a great manager for the City, worked under ridiculous circumstances with Sam Hamman and then the riddler.
Although he did sign some shite

Looking at all the good players who left on the cheap when we got offered at least a million or more is harsh.

Not sure what those lists prove other than the fact jones had to continually get rid of his decent players year in year out, yes he made some poor signings most on loan which cost the club just wages and no signing on fees or fees to buy

My view on Dave Jones is that he virtually saved the club on his own with his early wheeling and dealing under stupidly bad circumstances.
However after his 3rd or 4th year he used to take an 'annual punt' on promotion and did nothing to develop the club at grassroots level - get in expensive loans and take 'punts' on players - some worked (Bothroyd) while others were expensive disasters. There was no strategy for developing and bringing on youngsters... he knew we would be forced to sell them but didn't utilise them when we had them (Not playing Ramsey more was a big mistake - and Matthews, letting Gunter go for peanuts and letting Matthews, Ledley, Burke and Bothroyd run down their contracts was nothing short of negligence).
He got 'comfortable' with us and lost the passion. And the truth is he just wasn't good enough. Other clubs got promoted on a much smaller budget than us and that's the acid test of a manager.

In fairness to DJ he didn't have Collins,Gabbidon or Macanuff they were sold before he had been appointed whilst Williams was given a free transfer by Lennie along with Gary Croft - Players that came through the youth sysem were already at the club - I counted that 14 of them were loan signings
For 5 seasons he had to rely on free transfers and loan signings, some yes were questionable along some of those that he paid money for on the whole he did a pretty decent job considering we were in a relegation battle the season before he joined. He improved us season after season working miracles under financial restraints & transfer embargo's
Taiwo & Wildig were given free transfers by Malky

Come on. Jones had to get rid of a lot of decent players. I don't think he wanted too, but remember we had to sell to survive. Also he never negotiated the contracts or transfers of players, just put a list of names up the CoC.
I'm certain he never wanted to sell gabs, Collins etc etc.
