Craig Bellamy eager for long-awaited Cardiff City return.
CRAIG BELLAMY is raring to get back into Bluebirds’ action with today’s big clash with Middlesbrough first on the frontman’s agenda.
After a trip to America for treatment on an ankle injury, the 33-year-old is ready to get back in action after missing four games.
Bluebirds’ assistant boss David Kerslake admitted the return of Bellamy was a big boost.
“Having Craig back is massive boost to us. He’s been training really well this week and is raring to go,” said Kerslake.
“He went to a rehab centre in America with (club physio) Sean Connelly and had a tough week.
“Any club would miss Craig, he’s a fantastic professional and demands everything from those around him. It’s a huge plus to get him back.”
Cardiff also welcome back defender Matt Connolly after a thigh injury ruled him out of last weekend’s defeat of Hull.
Kevin McNaughton, who started that game, is out with a thigh tear of his own that could take a further week to heal.
Tommy Smith (hamstring) and Don Cowie (knee) are both still absent.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jordon Mutch should be back in action in a development game against Colchester next week after a long-term foot problem.

Middlesbrough have their own injury concerns ahead of today’s clash, with boss Tony Mowbray sweating on three key players.
Josh McEachran turned an ankle midweek on England under-21 duty, while defender Jonathan Woodgate picked up a calf injury in Boro’s last outing against Sheffield Wednesday.
Striker Marvin Emnes returned to action in that clash and will also be assessed for any reaction to that return ahead of today’s clash.
Boro are unbeaten in their last eight Championship outings and have recorded six wins and two draws in that sequence.
Mowbray believes that great run by his side has earned them a bit of breathing space insisting they do not necessarily even have to win in the Welsh capital today.
With Cardiff in third a place, a point behind Boro, Mowbray said the pressure is all on Malky Mackay’s men who are looking to keep their 100% record at home at the start of this season going.
“I think there is a little bit of pressure on Cardiff to do well this season,” Mowbray said.
“They have had a lot of investment in their team and are doing well. But that pressure comes along with every week and every match and we will try and add a little bit to that.
“We’ve put ourselves in a position where if worst came to worst and we didn’t win it, it’s not as if Cardiff are pulling away from us.
“They are currently behind us and if they beat us, we would be in touching distance with two home games coming.
“What we have achieved over the last six or seven games has potentially given the team a bit of breathing space.
“Not that we just want to take that, we want to keep pushing on and it’s a great game to go and win.”
