Anyone remember that day?
I remember travelling down with my mate by car after calling Brentford ticket to confirm that it was ok to travel down and I remember the person on the phone saying no problem plenty of room we have plans in place as to accommodate everyone travelling.
When we got there we were greeted with a queue, got to be a mile long waiting to get into the ground. I was really looking forward to this match as Brentford were doing well and the amosphere was always very good.
We managed to get into the ground, but there were so many fans that weren't as lucky (2500 wasn't it?), many belonged to the supporters club and they were turned away
To make the day worse, if I can remember rightly we lost the game 1-0.
Ooh the memories of Cardiff City.

Managed to get in. City charging the gates to get in. Those were the days.

I was there. City fans ended up in the home end as well. Think we had Nugent up front. Delaney was the class player in that team. Took me a few years to get the programme for that game as it sold out. I miss those days and terrace football.

Remember this game and a few of us were unluckly to get in...Always remember leaving Neath at 11:45am for the 3pm kick off, we arrived in time, but couldn't get in..
If I remember right, we played the home league fixture a couple of weeks later and we won 4-1, don't quote me on that, but I'm sure that was the game Jason Fowler chipped the keeper

Yeah I remember there being a line of police between the home fans and the City fans in the home end, it was crazy!!

I was there but couldnt get in along with hundreds of City fans after their chairman stated that their ground could accommodate us all on the day. He didnt take advice from our club that we would take thousands there.
I tried to climb up a 15 foot wall, and as i got near the top there was a policeman with his boot in the air, stating get down or he would stamp on my fingers
About 20 of us then the to get in the away end which was locked by a padlock, so someone broke the lock off

and we ran in the away end just to have a chance to watch the game. As we got to about 10 foot from the top of the Brentford terrace, a gang of coppers ran from the top of the terrace and chased us out with police truncheons
I, along with hundreds of other City fans didnt watch the game.
The police stopped us gaining entry as they thought that too many City fans in the ground would be too much for them to handle. It was annoying as the week before they had thousands more away fans in the ground when they played Tottenham in the cup.
At the end of the game, there was a streetful of cars that got smashed up, even saw 2 men on top of a convertible and they both jumped in the middle and the roof was smashed in. Wouldnt surprise me if there were 50 cars of more smashed up.

What a day, woke up with Hang over in the wilds of Ponty, train back to Cardiff, train to Bristol to meet my brother and Jules (placid Casual) think Nukes might have been with us as well, so South West Terror Squad in full effect, got to the ground, massi e line of fans, police woman on horse rides down the line, stops about 5 people in front of us and says from here back ain't getting in!!! We spend the next 40 mins, charging gates and causing general chaos but still didn't get in, so stood by open corner of the ground, where the City fans keep us updated by shouting over the wall, think we won 1 0!! One of the crazy, maddest, longest days ever with The City!! Amazing

Yes small world, I was with a gang of lads from Bargoed
Brings back some memories - the good old days of loyal supporters who would do anything to get in a game

I got in twice
They were closing the gates to the away end as I was about to get in but a couple of chaps held it open for a few more of us to get in, all with tickets I should add before the charge of the lefties starts. Got grief from one particular jobsworth steward who insisted to an officer of law that I be flung to floor very vigorously and beaten to death for such a henious crime as accessing a football match with a pre paid ticket whilst he was closing the gates. In all fairness he more or less told the steward to f**k off, he's got a ticket end of. The prick wouldn't let it lie insisting it was a forgery, WHAT, who the f**k would forge a ticket for Brentford you fuckwit! Anyway he took it off me and buggered off so I wandered off into the lower terrace even though the ticket was for the upper bit of stand the quite aptly named by Brentford fans themselves the "Wendy House" as I had an inkling that he'd be back. Imagine my surprise when the terrace was nowhere near full, could have got a few hundred more in easily.
Sure enough, towards the end of the first half he spotted me and within seconds returned with some police, bouncing up and like some rabid left winger at EDL gathering, that's him, that him. Youngish Police guy, looked like an officer type on one of those accelerated graduate schemes who in all fairness asked to me leave the ground with an escort as a potential serious charge had been made by fuckwit the steward. I took the hint on this so made my way with the copper assigned to escort me out, it was then I recognised him as the first copper

Said copper took me all the way to exit gate, made me go outside and then let me back in again, From the brief chat I had with him he said that this particular steward caused more problems for the police than most away fans ever had and that a superior office would be talking to him. He then said got to go, your boys are performing again

Loved reading some of these replys and old stories, brings back so many good memorries,
Were any refunds ever given to fans who didn't get to see the game?

No idea, I'd imagine some fans were probably fined for turning up!

I got there early with a few others now with us being up there in the league with them we knew 1000s was going to take the M4 treck down, we parked up about 200meters away from the bee's arms around 11ish only to find city fans had taken over there local, it was chaos in there for a few jars with city fans singing. We could see something wasn't rite as fans started filling the street outside more and more every ten minutes. Then we thought f**k this we gonna get locked out here let's get in the ground now soon as the gates opened, anyway we gets in its half packed, half hour later its heaving full with 40mins to go before kick off, I'm still thinking why didn't they make this all ticket as I could see over the wall and there was 1000plus still outside, police dogs and bobbys everywhere. Ten mins before kick off they opened the home end up behind there goal and pushed the brentford over halfway, that filled up quick we thought, so the game kicks off and there's people still locked out but a few got over the wall in to the away end via dogs hanging off peoples jeans while getting clubbed with police battens, funny as f**k day out that was, think we lost 1-0 to, f**k knows what happened with the few hundred still locked out after the home end that they opened up got full. Chaos is all I remember.

I was also one of the fans who ran up that slope into the away end only to be chased back down by truncheon wielding coppers one just missing me with a swipe of his truncheon

Like thousands of others i didn't get in that day but instead ended up drinking in a pub near the ground where i got talking to a Chelsea lad who told us they were going to have a go at Cardiff after the game i wished him good luck because there were thousands of city fans wandering around Brentford and if Chelsea made an appearance they would most likely get a real battering

I think thats the yr 200 of our lads ended up in the home end
everyone started singing
and then had to get escorted back into the away section across the field?

Great day, i was in the away end and i remember standing there watching groups of city lads coming out of the home stands and walking along the pitch making their way to the away end. Couldnt do that these days. Im sure the old bill give us half of the home terrace behind the goal in the end just to stop the city going where they wanted. Im sure the echo reported that 2000 were locked out or thats my imagination running wild

i also remember when they scored a seat flew through the air from the upper tier and stuck in the pitch

Great vision from him. Did he end up at Torquay later in his career?

I remember reading the Brentford response in the echo, they don't get 5,000 for a home match so why would we expect that many to travel away.Or words to that affect

that what cardiff was all about in them days we could pull out silly turnouts on occasions away, but by f**k when we did it was gaurenteed chaoas.them days are long long gone and football has died as we new it!!!
Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:29 am
That was a cracking turn out, combination of two teams flying high and on a bank holiday Monday, so not so many nursing Xmas hangovers! that contributed to such a massive turnout. We ended up in the Home stand along with a good couple of hundred others. There were many Cardiff in all four sides of the ground though
