Prospects in the development side?

Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:56 am

Now it was the first time i have seen the development team play, and it took me the first 10/15 minutes to figure out who all the players were.

Just thought i would add my thoughts on how good some of these players are, and maybe someone who has seen them more can tell the rest of us if any of these will get in the starting line up any time soon.

Coulson - He looked alright, positionally very good never really seemed to happy to have the ball though, looking to get rid of it asap. cant say i was overwhelmed by him but the staff must see something in him to sign him up.

Declan John - This guy impressed me the most (anyone know how old he is?) he looks really bloody quick, got forward a lot and didnt seem to tire as the game went on. Would like to see how he handles a proper game defensively as we didnt see to much of that from him yesterday, but im optimistic this guy can come through.

Nugent - Same first name as Turner, tall like Turner, even looks a bit like him (and guess what) plays a bit like him too. He was a very commanding and vocal presence at the back, and dominant in the air, but not liking the boot it first as questions later approach, we already have one of them.

Nat Jarvis - Think this guy will be moved on soon, just dont see him making it.

Kadeem Harris - Looked rapid to be fair, but constantly injured (went off again after about 25 mins) im getting less and less convinced this guy will make it here unfortunately.

Wharton - Seen someone else on here say they thought he was brilliant. Personally i didnt see it that way at all. cant say he contributed much to the game at all.

Mcphail - His range of passing is just superb. Its a shame he has had all of his problems. 90 minutes here but i just cant see him getting in the first team unless there are more injuries.

Conway - For me, did nothing all game untill he popped up with a superb goal, really was a fantastic strike.

Darko - came off the bench and was superb. Created the goal for Conway with a great 50/60 yard run, staying strong to shrug off the challenge before laying it off. Got a goal after a defensive mistake and looked sharp all the way through.

Velikonja - Went through on goal in the first 5 minutes, but dragged his shot horribly, horribly wide. Apart from that there were not many chances in front of goal, but his overally play looked sharp, to me he wasnt treating the game as a meaningless friendly, he wanted to be involved a lot and some of his touches were really good. Would still like to see him on the bench

Just a final word on the number 12 for us (dont know who he was) he came on for Nugent with about 15 minutes to go. If hes a centre back then im an Olympic goal medalist, he has to be 2 or 3 inches shorter than darcy blake!

Declan John was only 17 in July My son played with him in the academy and he very quick indeed. He has played mostly as a winger and he is not a natural defender . I think he is the cream of the crop in the academy
Tommy OSullivan has an injury and I must admit I am very surprised how he has developed a few years ago I would not have thought he would make it this far This shows the character in the kid He always was the best in the bleep test but not the quickest

Myself and a couple of others from this board were sitting in-front of Declan John's parents and aunty at the game and we were talking to them before, during and after the match. At first we didn't know who they were and was bigging up their son which they obviously loved :D then we found out who they were, its a good job we weren't slagging him off :o
Ok back to Declan, the first time I saw this guy play I thought wow and thought to myself, this kid is going to make it big, I still think that after seeing him last night. I really like his style of play and quick turn of pace and in my opinion he will be a future star at Cardiff City. If I were the manager then I wouldn't have any problem with putting him in the first team squad and see how he copes. I believe he is about 17 or 18
A real talent and I do hope that he breaks into the first team very soon.

By the way, I tried getting his parents to join this board :D they did tell me that they always look on here and the other board.

lets be fair as well, with the way taylor is playing he doesnt have to much competetion. Id like to see him get a chance this season.

Declan John had a good game - would like to see him on the bench for first team to give Taylor more competition.

McPhail put an intelligent shift in, classy in possession and unlucky with the free kick.

Velikonja looked sharp to me and strong in the tackle. He missed that sitter early doors but apart from that I though he did well and stood out.

Conway's goal was obviously a beauty but he was quite quiet overall in my opinion.

Like the sound of that Declan John, someone needs to be pressuring Taylor for a 1st team place so hopefully that will be him. We may well see McPhail on the bench or maybe even starting on saturday, with Gunnar needing to fill in at RB and Cowie out, it will be interesting to see whether it will be him or Ralls that comes in.

declan john started at northampton in the cup game and was our man of the match for me ...he has been with cardiff since he was 8yrs old ...started out as a centre forward ....moved to wide midfield ...but now found his real position as attack minded left back ...imo ready for first team now if needed :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: quite a few of our young players have to become more consistant ....declan john and ben nugent are very consistant and the 2 stand out ....coulson will get there ...ossilaja has improved immensly from the northampton game :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
