Vale - Meet the players

Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:18 pm

My sons have an inset day on Thursday, and thought they might enjoy going to the Vale to meet the players. How easy is it to find as I've never been there before, and what time are they likely to start training? Any tips for going?

Thanks

Very Easy.

I used to work down there, not something I pursued much myself, although watched them a few times. Drive through the gates next to the Vale Pavilion, and drive down to the training pitch, watch and then you can just get signatures etc when they walk up the hill.

Was working down there the day before the QPR home game when we drew 2-2, I was watching in my suit and Koumas approached me for a chat (bizarre)

On the whole, all the players very good with kids so I hear.

Start Training around 10.30am usually, finishing at about 11.30, I'd say get there about 11.15 to watch a bit of training and get tops signed.

Are there any particular days that the players do not train?

Thanks everyone for the advice in this thread. I took the boys down yesterday morning and had a great time. I was surprised how close up we were allowed to get, and pretty much all the players were there going through the motions. The only noticeable absentees were Mcnaughton, Gunnarsson, Frei and Tommy Smith.

The good news is that Bellamy was training hard, and looks to be in good shape for tomorrow. Cowie, Taylor and Connolly all trained separetely, and I would be surprised if Cowie featured tomorrow although the other 2 looked ok.

I was surprised by how slick the training was, and my boys (plus myself) were mesmerised by how quick they passed the ball around. After the training the players came over and signed things for us, and had photos taken. We were the only ones left at that stage, so the boys got spoilt and enjoyed themselves. What struck me was how well all the players seemed to get on, and there is a real team spirit there. Also nothing was too much trouble for them, and they were asking us what we wanted signed! I also got to speak to the kit man, and he was very complimentary about the players and the job Malky is doing.

I've left the place feeling really upbeat - maybe this really is the year for us! Certainly the players and management seem relaxed and focussed on the job in hand.
