Andy Legg parts company with cash-strapped Llanelli
FORMER Cardiff City and Wales player Andy Legg has left his job as Llanelli manager.
Legg, it is understood, stepped down after the cash-stricken Welsh Premier League club were thumped 6-1 at home by Gap Connah's Quay.
He was not available for comment and would only confirm by text message that he had left Llanelli FC. He first played for the club in 2008, helped them win the Welsh Premier title and led them into Europe.
It's been a tough time for Legg, who has kept working in the face of financial problems. A players' strike was only averted last month when the club paid some of the money owed.
Llanelli's problems are again in the spotlight because the west Wales club faces a second winding-up petition this season later this month.
A petition to wind up the club has been presented by the Commissioners for HM Revenue and Customs and is due to be heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on November 19.
Club chairman Nitin Parekh settled an outstanding tax bill in August to stave off another winding-up petition from HMRC.
There was danger of a players' strike at the beginning of October, but that was prevented when the club made some payments to players.
Since then, players are understood to have been paid additional outstanding monies and the Welsh Premier League has been negotiating a survival plan with the club.
The home defeat against Connah's Quay at Stebonheath Park seems to have been the end for Legg.
Teenager Rhys Healey and Jamie Petrie both scored hat-tricks against a Llanelli team who had 46-year-old Legg, Luke Bowen and Chris Venables all suspended, while Geoff Kellaway and Craig Williams were ruled out with injuries.
They then had midfield player Ashley Evans sent off after 16 minutes.
Llanelli were down to nine players when Corey Jenkins was dismissed.
Wales international Legg, who played his part in helping Cardiff City earn promotion to the Championship in 2003, made well over 600 first team appearances during a League career which saw him play for Swansea City, Notts County, Birmingham City, Ipswich Town, Reading, Peterborough and Cardiff City.

Wrong. Spoke to him at a friends wedding years ago when a jack mate of mine said 'you're a jack, never been Cardiff'. His reply was 'I'm not a f*cking jack mate let me tell you'. Hilarious if you we're there. He said that the jacks weren't paying him when he played for them and basically drove him out. From the horses mouth. As for a limited footballer, he had a legendary lon throw and a good left peg. he was my favourite player because he gave 100% every game

A legend and anyone who has spoken to him would know he loves cardiff, a very passionate person.
Did very very well for us, ok technically not the best but hard work and enthusiasm was enough. Many a manager and many a fullback was brought in and tried to replace him but again and again he pushed his way back into the team.

I hated him when he played for the jacks, especially his hair! Not fussed when we signed him but I remember the game at Ninian Park against the jacks (I think it was an autoglass cup or welsh premier thing) and he was fantastic and showed he was well and truly a bluebird. Never looked back after that and earned my full respect ever since. Legend!
