FRED KEENOR

Fri Nov 09, 2012 11:38 am

Really looking forward to the unveiling of the Fred Keenor statue tomorrow. Well done all concerned. A great effort all round.

Three years ago i wrote my first book on Fred. I'm now told by the publisher that there are not many copies left and that they will not be printing another batch. So if you do want to know the full and complete story of our most iconic player you can still buy a few copies on Amazon or in the club shop.

Its a great book - would recommend it as a must-read to anyone who is interested in Fred and our clubs rich history.

Well done Jim - the book is a fitting tribute to him and fantastic that the statue has now happened.

Thanks mate. I really appreciate hearing things like that. Really does make all the hard work that goes into writing a book feel worthwhile! :ayatollah:

And the effort shows mate. I reckon you'll be re-printing a run once the statue is up and people want to know more (I'll write the forward for a hefty fee! ). Seriously though, the book and statue means the big man has a fitting and lasting tribute which will stand the test of time.

The reason I wrote the book was because not much was really known about Fred and I wanted to find out more myself, as well as help in some small way ensure his legacy would never be forgotten. Now with the statue up there is no chance of that. Should also give our stadium a bit more character and make it feel like home. Wish there had been room for a Trixie the Cat at Fred's feet though. Think kids would have loved that!

I spoke to the publisher about another run seeing as the statue is going up but it doesn't appear likely. They have now sold all of their copies onto Amazon and the club shop and they think that should satisfy any demand. If, however, they change their mind I'll be in touch and get a cheque ready ha ha :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

If you're looking for another football book to read over Xmas then my last book was on the unbelievably sad story of the great Duncan Edwards. Incredible player and man by all accounts.

Cheers Jim, I'll buy it as a gift to myself from my wife at Christmas. She's a thoughtless cow  . And then you have to be a mind-reader to buy them a surprise!

Yep, the statue and book means that he will not be forgotten and that the FA cup win, although a while back, is always in the fans thoughts. The statue will add character to the stadium too which is good.

On a different note, it still makes me laugh when those poor sods at Fulham got a statue. Of Michael Jackson! Shamone! :ayatollah:

ha ha thanks Willy! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: Hope you enjoy them all! By the time you've finished that lot you'll be ready for my next one, Alligator Blood, which will be my first international release next summer. It's an incredible true story about a young wiz kid who in 2008, at the age of 24, became one of the richest people in Australia but by 2011 he was bankrupt, in witness protection in NY and blamed for the complete collapse of online gambling in America. The Daily Mail ran this article on him last year, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... probe.html

Very different from my other books but great fun to research and write! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
