Cardiff City will again be without midfielder Jordon Mutch as they face Bolton tomorrow in their latest Championship clash.

The 20-year-old has not played in six weeks with a foot injury, but manager Malky Mackay insists Mutch, a summer capture from Birmingham, is nearing a return.

The Bluebirds will again be without Craig Bellamy (ankle) and Tommy Smith (hamstring) with both men's absences measured in weeks rather than days according to their manager.

"Jorodon is still under the care of the physio. We are monitoring it, bit it is nothing long term," said Mackay.

"There's a slight issue with the foot in terms of pain, when it comes and when it goes. We are working on his boots at moment, but we don't want to throw him back in and find he has gone back out there too quickly.

"When it comes to Craig and Tommy we are talking weeks rather than days."

But despite the list of injuries Cardiff sit three points clear at the top of the table and head to Lancashire off the back of an excellent 4-0 win over Burnley last time out. It was a result which made it a historic seven wins out of seven in their opening league games this season.

And after a summer spending spree that neared £10m, Mackay does have plenty of cover and against the Clarets he saw impressive displays from young frontman Joe Mason and South Korean international Kim Bo-Kyung who was making his Bluebirds' debut.

"The strength of the squad is being tested at moment," added Mackay.

"We have some real quality players out injured. But we do have a real desire from the players who have come in to hold on to their strip. That shows in training every day.

"It's good to have selection problems when players are doing well and you know others can go in and do the job as well. That's when teams really start performing."
