" (Poll) Stephen McPhail to have a new contract "

Thu Nov 01, 2012 5:33 am

In light of today's story in The Echo I thought it would make a pretty interesting poll.

Stephen McPhail has served our club well over the last few years, but with competition for midfield places greater than ever, it poses the question above....

I have voted (based on players contract) for NO.
I love Macca and he has been great for this club but he should not be offered a regular playing contract.
I feel if he is offered a reduced rate with bonuses on appearance then I'd say yes, but giving his game time and poor health I feel he should actually consider retirement.
Take up coaching and stay in the game that way.

Def No. If the club are to progress then he is def not good enough to play for us, coaching staff maybe?

Sick note, not needed at the club.

Will not get in team even if fully fit (which is unlikely anyway).

Time for him to move on, as the club should not been seen as a recovery hospital centre (Fowler, Commingues etc).

Unfortunatly no would rather see him take a coaching job. Time to bring through the youth than rely on Macca

I like McPhail as a player, been a great servant to the club and one of our most loyal players.

Its been really tough for him for the past few years, but I feel his playing days maybe over. I'd like to see him given some sort of coaching role, similar to Kevin Cooper.

I still think he will start champ games this season.

With his illness other than pay as you play it has to be a no.

Would be happy if he took up a coaching role with the youth academy :ayatollah:

He shouldn't have had the last one never mind a new one. Total and utter crap better off in League 2 which is about his standard,

Is mcphail in denial?
He doesn't look at his best appearance wise todays echo back page, obviously he has missed alot of football, Is the time right for him to move up another level given his circumstances and age

utmost respect and feelings for mcphail but is the condition going to effect him as he looks to increase physical demands deep into his 30's
maybe he should look at dropping down the leagues and getting into media or management, He may make a good manager

Hmmm. Injury prone veteran who takes any momentum we have out of a game. Picks the ball up from a defender, spins around & passes it to another defender. Attacks less than an Italian soldier and has the defensive qualities of a boxer without arms. One paced - sloooooooow. Let me think about this one....

Great servant and hope he gets a few games, but when we are in the Prem next year he wont be required, on the coaching staff , maybe ?

Like to see him stay with us-but with a coaching role

Still think Mcphail might play a part at times this season in the holding & passing role, but no room for sentiment now and IMO not worthy of a contract extension.

Would love to see him stay on in a coaching capacity, seems a similar type of character to Yeardley.

If he leaves and doesn't get any coaching role here then that will be a huge loss imo.

I'd love to see him coaching here, would be great to see him pass on his experience to up and coming midfielders at the club. Unfortunately though he's been out of the game too long and his illness is too demoralising for it to be viable for the club to keep him on as a player. I hate to say it as I really do love him, but unfortunately that's how it is.
