LAST TIME WE PLAYED BOLTON AWAY

Mon Oct 29, 2012 10:06 am

Think it was 99 in the cup, the first game was called off with most of us on route, I was in Stoke at the time with my son in the car, quick look at the fixtures and found that West Brom were home to Blackburn, so off we went.

We got there and went in the away end, as you do, sat down and started to make conversation with a few Blackburn fans around me, you know the thing "what's sort of season you having? How's Nathan Blake doing for you etc?" but it soon became clear that most of the fans in the stand were cardiff fans like us who had relocated so to speak.

For some reason the actual Blackburn fans around started getting a bit concerned and so did the police, somehow they managed to get all the cardiff fans herded up together and in total there was close on 400 of us in there. They moved us on masse to the opposite corner and put us in a block and surrounded us with Police and stewards, reputations hey.

When the teams came on the pitch we had all decided that for obvious reasons Nathan Blake would be our major area for support and boy did he love it.

To cap it all he actually scored for Blackburn and in front of their fans, but as soon as he'd scored he sprinted over to the cardiff fans and proceeded to do the Ayaytollah for the City fans, well the faces on the Blackburn and West Brom fans was a picture, it was like sharing a private joke and none of them could work out what was going on.

Made what was a wasted day well worth the money spent, incidentally went up on the Tuesday for the reorganised game and remember little other than we lost, typical of my selective memory, score etc don't register, but funny little fans events stay firmly in place, think i must attend for the wrong reasons. 8-)

I don't remember that day Gwyn but one memory I do have of going to Bolton was back in season 1977/78. Back them I would travel to all the away games with 3 of my mates and as I was the only one with a car I had to do the driving.

That season away trips were really difficult as it seemed we would ship 3 or 4 goals every game. I remember losing 3-0 at Blackburn, 4-1 at Luton, 3-0 at Blackpool and 4-0 at Brighton. The Brighton game was memorable for Robin Friday kicking Mark Lawrenson in the head and getting sent off, but never mind we fell out of the Goldstone ground and straight into Hove dog track for the night and we lost to the bookies as well.

We lost 4-1 at Hull just after followed by one of the worst home results I have ever seen losing 6-1 to Sheffield Utd but what the hell the next week we were off to Bolton convinced that this would be the game to turn our season around, we lost 6-3 despite Friday returning from suspension. I'm sure that was the last time Friday played for Cardiff.

A couple of weeks later we were at Southampton for a boxing day game and lost 3-1 again but a couple of days later beat Millwall 4-1 at home and we were all convinced we were going to get promoted. :D

Reading your thread got me thinking about those days and how great it is to watch a team who are putting 2 or 3 goals on teams rather than shipping 2 or 3 a game.

Great days back then and I wouldn't swap the memories for anything and all the pain and disappointment back then makes watching the team this season all the sweeter.

Just remembered the Shrewsbury mid week game, called off so seventeen of us in our mini Bus headed to walsall who were playing Rotherham.
Must have been around two hundred City who did the same and we doubled the away attendance which was around two hundred from Rotherham, we all mixed in and had a good laugh.

What we dint know was the game was televised for some obscure reason, hardly major football clash, but when we got home we were all getting calls saying did you see that walsall game on telly I'm sure I heard the crowd singing Eddie May's barmy army all night, the world must have thought they were hearing things.

Did the same. Went in the big stand opposite the players tunnel, 8 of us. Called Nathen over for a few photos and autographs. We were then marched around the pitch and put in the "Cardiff" section.

Great day out, and to top it off Blakey scores :ayatollah:

Yes I remember that game the Bolton away game as was driving a car load up there !! Once news broke the game was off we looked at the fixtures and saw Burton Albion were playing Merthyr so we headed there. Rang a few lads and before the old bill knew what was happening Merthyrs away following had around 100 extra fans. The look on Burton Fans faces were priceless with CCFC flags in the away end. :ayatollah:
