Let's not get carried away says Malky

Sun Oct 28, 2012 7:54 am

MALKY Mackay insisted he wasn’t getting carried away after Cardiff City claimed a three-point lead at the top of the Championship.

Former Bluebirds boss Lennie Lawrence did his old club a favour as the Crystal Palace side he took caretaker charge of in midweek won 2-1 at morning leaders Leicester.

Cardiff took full advantage of the Foxes’ slip to thrash Burnley 4-0 and claim a seventh successive league win at home this season.

But asked whether this was a promotion-winning squad, the cautious Mackay replied: “It’s not something I’ve thought about.

“After 12 games, I’m just delighted that we’re in and about everything that’s going on.

“The players and everyone else at the club have shown a great togetherness but I’m acutely aware of this division, everything in it and how relentless and unforgiving it is.

“Teams can quickly be decimated with injuries – we’ve seen that ourselves with Nicky Maynard, Craig Bellamy, Jordon Mutch and Tommy Smith, four players we’ve brought into the group.

“So I’m delighted with guys who have stepped in, taken places and grabbed the jerseys, they are making it difficult for others to get them back.”

Mackay expressed his delight that his side had stopped 18-goal Charlie Austin from scoring in a ninth consecutive game.

“We were playing against the top scorers in the division and playing against the top goalscorer in Charlie Austin,” he said.

“To keep a clean sheet against that and be clinical at the other end, well, I’ve got to be very pleased. The demands we put on the players this week was to be more clinical.

“We got into some great positions against Watford on Tuesday but didn’t do what we did today. We could have had more but I think the goals we took were excellent.”

Summer signing Craig Noone was the stand-out performer, striking the woodwork twice and claiming Cardiff’s second goal close to half-time from 25 yards.

Noone left to rapturous applause near the end as loan signing Kerim Frei came on for his Bluebirds debut.

“Craig was someone we looked at for a number of years, we tried to bring him to Watford and we tried to tempt him out of Brighton in January,” said Mackay.

“But the situation in the summer allowed us to get him and I feel there’s a lot more potential to get out of him.

“He’s come into football by a slightly different route (non-league) but he’s got bags of personality and has a huge talent to start with. He wants to learn and playing with good players rubs off as well.”

Totally disagree ;) Let's all get carried away coz we have waited a lifetime for a squad like this, and setting ourselves up for a fall is par for the course but f**k it, we made of good stuff and keep bouncing back, as many of us say how many time have we walked out of Ninian Park saying NEVER AGAIN only to turn up again next week.

It's all part of being a football fan, the ups and downs, and there's been plenty of downs, so now we having a bit of up, I'm going to get carried away and f**k em all. 8-)

When I saw the headline I thought exactly the same Gwyn.

I wanna shout from the rooftops and tell everyone who doesn't know, we are top of the league and I am loving it.

I have never felt a confidence about our team and our automatic promotion chances than I currently feel.

But who is going to tell Malky we have played 13 games and not 12?

What Malky means is

"Let's not get carried away........because next week I'm going back to playing 4-5-1 with a lone striker!"

;)
