CEO Simon Lim promises promotion push cash for high flying Cardiff City
by Terry PhillipsOct 25 2012
Simon Lim, Cardiff City’s acting chief executive, last night pledged money will be available to boost the club’s promotion push in January.
Lim met with key supporters last night and during a two-hour meetingassured them:
Manager Malky Mackay will be given the backing to strengthen his squad in January – if that is what he wants.
Vincent Tan’s commitment to the club is growing – and he is attending more matches.
Chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee is also committed long-term and Lim believes there will be no changes to the board.
He says the Bluebird will remain on City’s badge and traditional blue will continue as City’s away kit.
Malaysian Lim met with a group of 10 fans, representing organisations including Cardiff City Supporters Club and the Supporters Trust.
He was appointed finance director last month with Doug Lee leaving that role and was then installed as acting chief executive in place of Alan Whiteley. Echo columnist Carl Curtis was among the supporters invited to the meeting and he said: “It was a relaxed meeting.
“We outlined concerns that the rebranding would go even further and explained that many of us had backed Vincent Tan’s plans, but that there was a tipping point.
“He told us the Bluebird is staying on the club badge and the blue away kit will continue to be used. Simon Lim also promised to take our comments to the board and report back to us.”
Lim did not want to comment on the ‘sensitive’ Langston issue, but did outline the club’s three main priorities.
“He is keen to stabilise things at the club following some staff changes, help the manager in his quest to lead Cardiff City to the Premier League and then stay there,” said Curtis.
“Simon Lim was asked about the need for City’s squad to be strengthened in January. He told us those decisions were for manager Malky Mackay, but if he did want to strengthen then he would have Vincent Tan’s full backing.”
It was revealed that City spent £12m on transfers for this season, part of the investment Tan has made in Mackay’s squad.
Lim told the fans that Tan is spending a lot of time travelling to watch the Bluebirds. He was at Nottingham Forest and watched City win 2-1 against Watford this week.
“Simon Lim told us Vincent Tan is becoming more and more involved,” said Curtis.

If he's getting more and more involved that can only be a good thing. I hope.

But don't you think we need a loan signing now , I would say we need a striker in urgently someone like Kenwyne Jones

Did you see him bouncing when we scored, for someone not interested in football doesn't seem to show

Anyone doubting Vincent Tans committment now needs their bumps feeling.
I just hope the daft b*stard starts to show supporters a bit more respect next
time he has a 'rebrand' idea. Gauge the feeling, test the waters. Next season
if the Bluebird is gone, so will I be. Red? well f**k it, I can cope with that.
But i want that Bluebird to be more prominent next season!!!

Yes we have spent but sadly about 3/4 of the 12 mill are either on the bench or injured..

Needs to get a striker in. FAST.
Although that may be down to malkys stubborness in trying to prove Rudy was a decent signing rather than the purse strings being loosened.

He said the Bluebird would remain and we would continue to have the Blue away kit. Was he meaning just for this season ? Or for as long as they are in charge of the club ? The way I read it , well it can be interpreted in a couple of ways.

You're absolutely right. At least 4 million spent on Kim Boo-Young and Etien Vilikonja and neither can get a sniff of first team action. Seems in Malky's eyes their not up to standard. If he's given money in January God knows who he'll waste VT's money on.

Crazy headline considering all Simon lim said was 'if that's what malky wants!'. Does not sound like he elaborated on that point? That said I think VT will spend in January, he has come this far and at the moment we are in a great position for promotion.
I'm not really sure why veljonika or Kim have not had much game time yet? My personal opinion is that neither player were actually his choice. I could be well off the mark here but it would make sense. Either that he's just realised they are not up to it but if that is the case you have to ask why he bought them in the first place? I'd like to see them given a chance, even if its only ten minutes at the end.
Really hope we get a loan striker in. A real poacher, someone like Robbie Keane would be ideal.

Velikonja and Kim Bo are certainly strange ones. Big money spent on them and they
are being overlooked for Rudy and Cowie, neither of whom are setting the world on
fire!! However... irrespective of our erratic away form. Its working. Which is why i'm
biting my tongue and backing the manager
