The difference between us and Leicester

Thu Oct 25, 2012 1:40 pm

I'm of the opinion that we'll finish above Leicester this season, and everyone else for that matter. There is one key difference, apart from all the obvious ones such as spending, squad depth etc. that I reckon we'll beat them to the top of the table... all but two of our "main" players has been in this situation. Our starting 11 with competing players:

Marshall - 3 playoffs in a row with City (not including CC Final because of Heaton)..
Kev - 3 playoffs/FA Cup final/CC Final with City.
Turner - CC Final/Playoffs with City.
Connolly - 2 auto promotions in 1st in a row.
Hudson - 3 playoffs/CC Final with City.
Taylor - CC Final/Playoffs with City.
Smith - Multiple promotions with different clubs, including winning the league.
Mutch - None, but hugely talented player, with PL experience.
Cowie - CC Final/Playoffs with City.
KimBo - Olympic team of the tournament and medal winner.
Whitts - 3 playoffs/CC Final/ FA Cup Final with City - he also has a tendency to do, as the song goes, what he wants.
Gunnar - CC Final/Playoffs with City.
Noone - None, but again, very talented.
Conway - CC Final/Playoffs with City
Bellers - Goes without saying, but played a whole career in PL and it's personal for him, including Playoff experience with City.
Heidar - Multiple promotions, experienced and proven at PL level.
Mason - CC Final/Playoffs with City.

And of course the man himself MALKY MACKAY - promoted 3 times as a player, CC Final and Playoffs with City.

No other team in the Championship has that sort of experience - every one of them bar Noone and Mutch has been here, or at least in a huge position like Kim Bo, and know what they need to do and how to do it, and most have experienced the pain of not making it.

Our problem in recent years has been complacency and lack of experience in those big games - but not anymore. This is why I fully believe that this will be our year (not to mention £12 million worth of spending and some of the best players in the Championship). :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Yes - some PL experience in there but next to no experience of competing at the top of the divison, only one player left over from the 2009/10 playoffs against us. We vastly outweigh them in terms of experience and arguably overall ability.

An interesting stat is that Leicester have used the least amount of players in the championship at 21, whereas we have used 24 .... Indicating do they perhaps not have the strength in depth?

So how does Leicester match up against that list of abject failure when it really matters?

It's not just about experience though.

A lot worse.

They lost to us in the play offs then the following season spent heavily and failed to reach the PO. Spent even more the following season and did worse.

I wouldnt be worried about us or leicester, Without bellamy we're a mid table side away from home, on paper we may be top 6 but we just dont have the fire power.

leicester aren't the best team in the top 8 either the tables will soon change,
last season we were unlucky in games costing us 10 points upto new year
this season we'v been lucky and gained 6-10 points we quite easily could of been on perhapd 16 points at this present time

Admittedly I laughed at this.

My main concern is not the players but Malkys tactics and stubborness.
