THE ELDERLY CHAP WHO COLLAPSED LAST NIGHT

Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:20 pm

Wayne Nash informed us tonight that the 73 year old had a heart attack on level 4. Lucky enough there was a heart consultant and doctor on that level watching the game who gave CPR until the paramedics came up. He is not out of the woods yet but the consultant said the signs are good that he should make a recovery.

Fair play, well done to those whose quick actions saved the guys life.
Time really is the issue with things like this, and if you can get to someone quickly you increase the chance of them surviving by a huge amount.
Knowing how to do CPR is one of those skills you never want to have to use, so again well done to those who helped.

When I was queuing to go for a cigarette outside Canton at half time, saw several paramedics and stewards sprint past.

Glad things are looking up for him :ayatollah:

Good news. Seem we have had quite a few "incidents" since moving to the CCS.

Is it because we did not notice before (terracing and more packed in) or are our supporters getting older?
Perhaps we are getting more excited by the football than in the previous 20 years.

I would have thought that the club would have installed those heart restart macines at various points around the ground.

Not expensive and an operator could be on standby to use it if necessary. Very easy to use as it tells you what to do and you cannot do it wrong.

I was told his heart stopped twice but they managed to resuscitate him :ayatollah:

Decent defibrillators cost about a grand each, I thought.

Cheaper than I thought.
Good value for money as they will save lives. Started to see around places now. I think all doctors surgeries are supposed to have one and railway staions.

Yes about a grand. They had a section on the news about them about a week or so ago and how they should be available to use more frequently and that they are so simple to use that the public can use them because they can do no harm even if used incorrectly.

They virtually will not work if you do not apply them properly. Infact they will tell you if you are not using them properly.
If anyone in my family had heart problems I would seriously consider buying one as it could save a life.

The fact he is still with us at all is down to the premier club member who was obviously a doctor and gave chest compression for what seemed like all of half time and i am told all the way to the ambulance. You could tell he was not going to give up. Whoever he is good on him.

I know the guy who was doing the CPR. He is a premier club member who was actually one of the olympic doctors and is a real bluebird and travels all over the country with city (I used to play golf with him). from wat I have heard the chap who collapsed would definately have died if it wasn't for that doctor. My Mrs is a student nurse and she reckons that Fabrice Muamba surviving was a miracle but this would be off the scale!

Hats off to that guy and I hope the club recognises the unbelievable job that was done on Tuesday. :ayatollah:

Thankfully there were no goals as Phil made his appearance back at Cardiff City Stadium for the first time since his heart attack. Well done Phil 24 minutes dead but still a Bluebird :ayatollah:

It was great to see him back, massive thanks to the doctor, who if it wasn't for him we would have had one less bluebird :ayatollah:

Perhaps a mention next home game wouldn't go a miss :?:
