A forum for all things Cardiff City

Almost six months have passed since we first became aware of the rebrand.
Has it been worth it so far?
On the positive side, Tan has invested heavily in the team and the squad looks strong in most positions. On the pitch, the club are flying with a 100% home record. Despite some indifferent recent displays,Cardiff City appear to be the real deal, capable of being a little off their best but still grinding out results.Cardiff's attendances appear to be holding up reasonably well too which given the furore over the rebranding and the tough economic times is a little surprising.
On the negative side, the home kit colour and badge have gone and the Bluebirds days seem numbered, given the reluctance of Ali to mention the 'B' word when Tan' is in the house.' Thus far,no debt to equity conversion has taken place, despite this being one of the major sweeteners for the deal. The rebrand has also undoubtedly divided the supporters like nothing else in the clubs history.
So,I suppose the questions are,how is it for you so far? Have the signings and the start to the season justified things for you? Are you more entrenched in your stance on the rebrand than before? Or have your views changed?
Thanks,
Alfie

Not really worth it.
People have fallen out and that won't be fixed for a good number of years.
There's not much of a 'feel good factor' around the place, which I believe is solely down to the rebrand
Attendances are at least 2000 down on what they should be for how we're doing
No debt to equity

Definately not worth it.
The more I see us in red the more entranced I am in my view of the rebrand. So much so that if we do get promoted to the premier the joy might not be there for me. The pride will be but the joy could be missing.

I still think the rebrand was totally unnecessary and I probably hate the rebrand even more now than what I did 6 months ago

NO Alfie, Nothing in my opinion can compensate for the stripping of our club's identity that I have known and loved since 1972.
Even Malky and his great team do not compensate for it.

The colour means sod all to me and atmosphere cannot be blamed for the rebrand as its been shyte since we moved into new stadium. . However I do hate the animosity it's created between the supporters.

As I see it Alfie the only thing that has changed is the colour of the shirt and I must say like many others who can accept that I still struggle badly when teams wear our colours at our ground. I just cannot help it and I have come to realise that it's always going to be like that as long as VT is involved at the club. It won't stop me going to games and it won't stop me being 100% behind MM and the players but 6 months in, if I'm honest, not only am I not getting use to the red shirt I know that I never will.
As regards all the financial side VT said the debt to equity swap would happen when Langston is settled. In my opinion it speaks volumes for the man that he is prepared to use his own money to sort out the mess created by SH, and sadly SH in my opinion has no intention anytime soon to settle. In fact if I was VT I'd tell him to fook off until September 2016 or take the club to court.
I won't judge VT on this debt to equity swap because as I see it no matter what he does SH will find another reason not to settle.
Overall my view on the rebrand is this far but no further. Losing either the Bluebird from the shirt or any attempt to rename the club is the tipping points.
In the main enjoying the football and very positive about this season.

Fair enough.
I always enjoy reading your posts and Its fair to say that we are some way apart in our views on the rebrand but nonetheless it's all about opinions.

Little less angry. Still as bemused and puzzled watching the team I love play in red and that badge...well..........
Thu Oct 25, 2012 9:01 pm
It's not a question of if its worth it or not. Nothing would be worth it, maybe you're just fishing for that answer?
But I'm enjoying the football, have managed to so 5 home and 1 away so far which is a good effort for me (given location, wage etc).

I hate the rebrand. I loved the real cardiff city but only like the new cardiff city.
Thu Oct 25, 2012 9:34 pm
I hate the re-brand, hate the colour change and what its done to our identity. I've been going since 1979 (and before that) but I have never felt so dis-associated with the club. Its never been all about success. How the f**k anyone can buy a red shirt is totally beyond me.
Thu Oct 25, 2012 9:40 pm
At the end of the day, each person's response to this question all comes down to whether success on the pitch is everything that matters to them.
For me the answer is a definite NO, despite how well we're doing and the fact that we have the best squad in my life, this is the least enjoyment ive ever gotten out of a season, and this is the least passionate i've ever felt about Cardiff City in my entire lifetime. And it kills me to say that, believe me.
It just doesn't feel the same anymore.
I've lost count of the amount of years it's been since i missed a home game, each time for the last season and a half travelling down from Preston because it means that much to me, but i feel this year may be the year.

Even though recent performances have been awful, I'm loving the football so far to be fair, especially at home. The signings we've made are top quality and they should realistically take us up to the Premier League. The CCS is finally starting to feel like home now as well.
But, I'm still truly gutted about the rebrand. I don't mind the badge that much, mainly because it still has our Bluebird on it, but I hate the red kit. I'd rather us get relegated a few divisions and go back to blue than go up to the Premier League in red, completely honest. Our attendances seem to be suffering a little bit because of the rebrand in my opinion, but that would obviously change if we get promoted.
But there's nothing I can do personally so I'm just going to carry on turning up in blue supporting Cardiff City Football Club.
Thu Oct 25, 2012 10:33 pm
I feel totally disconnected with the club at the moment and the rebrand has hit me hard.
Enjoying the football, but I'd give it all up tomorrow and play in league 2 in Blue with our badge back if I had the choice.
At least I would be supporting the City I've grown to love.
Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:08 pm
I hated the rebrand when it came about and 6 months on I still hate the rebrand but my love for Cardiff City will never die and I will continue to go to every home game and away game (I've only missed Ipswich because I was on holiday) to support Cardiff City FC, until they change the name then I'll Be There!!! I hate the new badge but I have reluctantly accepted the colour.
I am enjoying the football also.

This. Still not been to a home game this season, after 23 years as a season ticket holder.
Been to a few away games, but even that doesn't feel the same.
What I hate the most is the wedge that this has created between us, the fans.
Fri Oct 26, 2012 7:43 am
Not worth it at all to me, it's definitely not the same now. I wouldn't even be going any more if I didn't have someone else's unused ST. I'm done after this season.

As a city fan for over 45 years I hate the rebrand, but this is where we are, and need to move on from it.
As far as the football is concerned the home games, we doing just enough to win, yes we have won all of our home games and I hope this is not papering over the cracks. In my opinion other than the Blackpool and Wolves games, where I believe we out classed them, the rest of the home games we won by the odd goal which could have gone either way, not by losing the games in question but by drawing.
As for our away performances, and ( our best away performance in my opinion was at Brighton) well the least said the better, yes some fans will say our 2nd win at Ipswich Town in 60 years and a first win at Millwall in 20 years yes great results, humiliation at Bristol, Palace, and Forrest dispite a bit of a fight back in the last 20 mins at Forest.
Some might say that this is a bit negative, but I feel I need to get this off my chest and not for us not to get carried away Red shirt our Blue shirt, or maybe its the teams comming to Cardiff playing in Blue do not feel comfortable in Blue.
I did not realise that how many clubs have Blue as their away colour, then again why would we before this season !!!!
If it was not for the rebrand could we be heading where Coventry, Sheff Utd , Plymouth, Preston and Portsmouth are, all similar size clubs to us.

For me personally I feel less connected with the club. I am a Cardiff City fan now rather than an active supporter. I did not renew due to the rebrand. I have been to just 2 home games and it felt like it wasnt the "Cardiff City" that I connected with as a youngster. I hope we win every game but previosuly I would religiously listen on radio Wales to away games if I didnt attend now I don't. The passion had died for me this season. I hope we are able to return in the future to the Blue kit and some resemblence of the badge I grew up with. Always Cardiff but the rebrand has hit hard. Different for everyone but thats how I feel.

I agree with you 100%. I have had a season ticket for 44 years, but i have never felt so disconnected from MY club. This club used to be one of the great loves of my life, but that does,nt seem to be the same anymore, the rebrand has blighted this. Not sure if i would have renewed, but i will keep doing so so my young lad can keep going, i will always support the City, but some how now its not the same anymore
Fri Oct 26, 2012 10:36 am
Not missing attending games one bit, but I'll continue with my stance of wishing the team well, and wishing the board hell.
Fri Oct 26, 2012 10:53 am
my passion level for the Club is at an all-time low, it doesnt really feel like the Club, that I fell in love with, anymore...
said it before and still say: would rather see us with our crest and in blue in league 2 than in red with that beermat in the premiership
Cardiff City Identity:
COLOURS: gone
CREST: gone
NINIAN PARK: gone
NAME: still there
Fri Oct 26, 2012 1:52 pm
No its not the same as it use to be-its better! Not a popular opinion with a lot of you I know but I've supported city through the bad times when the promises made by past owners and managers made a used car salesmans pitch look like the ten commandments.I'll never wish for a return to that shit for my club.Onwards and upwards.
