OUR HOOLIGAN FANS

Sun Oct 21, 2012 7:16 pm

Just to get your attention, but seeing that Leeds knobhead on Friday made me ask myself how far have we come as fans, and in my eyes it is massive in ridding ourselves of the image that blighted us for so long, not that we were angels at that time, but different times different approach and we have moved on.

A lot of people who have seen it and done it still travel and you only need a glance to realise you wouldn't take liberties, but I think most of us could see we were holding the club back, and now keep things in check, and it does seem to be working, less bubbles, less aggressive policing, not all the time and not in all cases, but bit by bit and long may it improve.

Seeing that Leeds Knob running back into the Leeds end after disgracing his club, I wonder what would have happened if it had been us, and one of our fans returning like some sick hero, personally I think he'd have had a straightener. :old:

Good post Gwyn, never a truer word said, well apart from people saying Swansea is a shithole :ayatollah:

Gwyn, I'm not sure we're quite out of the woods yet.

We still have a large number of potential knobheads who follow us particularly at the big away games who cause concern. At Highbury a few years ago one of our fans ran on the pitch and confronted their keeper and remember the damage caused to cars and properties after the Arsenal game at the Emirates.

Then there was the trouble at the Chelsea game.

I don't want to be negative and I agree that things are massively better than they were even 10 years ago but my first reaction upon seeing that fool on the pitch was that it was the sort of thing that I could see one of our idiot fans doing at a big match or a derby game if the stewards let their guard down for a moment.

And no doubt as he was being led away we would be treated to a chorus of probably the most inaccurate song of all time...."You'll never ban... a City fan".

You don't to be a lefty PC brigade type fan to realise that running on the pitch and striking one of the opposition players is pathetic and disgraceful. I am all for having a good ruck in the stadium between willing participants and all for shouting abuse at the player but hitting a man doing his job is out of order.

Excellent post Gwyn, I just wish we could rid ourselves of the plastics now.

I do not think it's funny being attacked in your workplace, abuse I am all for. It's something that we can never get rid of and i'd f*cking hate it if football became that sanitised. You cannot defend idiots running on the pitch and striking a player, or maybe you can?

I must have missed Vince saying that, coz I know I never, when we fucked up, you got to hold your hands up and come up with a solution which is what we did, ironic that during the period of the notorious rams, we seen record reductions in arrests year on year FACT.
A lot of what we set up at Cardiff is now used as best practice in a lot of areas and some of our ideas are now seen as standards. But hey, why let facts and figures change  anyone's perception.

ho ho ho, couldn't see the average City fan taking that? By f**k we rolled over at the first sight of the premier and sold our souls in the process.

Back in the day if a fan had ran on the pitch and struck Jon Hallworth the grange would have lost the head, nowadays the middle class family types would shield their childrens eyes and vow never to take them to the football again.

We would've have had a chance to even get on the pitch, the stewards/police would've lined up at the bottom just 'cause we're Cardiff.

Yeah I totally agree. What the rams put in place is common practice for away games now, I miss the rams and hope that one day it gets started back up again if we reach the premiership. That's another reason why we don't take do many away as we used to. The rams brought us all together

As we walked to the ground yesterday along with lots of Forest supporters a City coach drove past. Amazing what a difference tapping your head makes, flicking us the V sign, then giving us an ayotollah back instead. :D

May not be Gwyns biggest fan but I can vouch for the fact that the Rams particularly as we moved through the 00s did not approve of their numbers causing havoc. What they did promote in my opinion is pushing the boundaries slightly but not too far, having a good f*cking drink and enjoy themselves watching CCFC. One major reason why I do not travel as much as I used to is down to the rams not existing anymore, even though I never travelled with them myself.

cardiff have moved on a lot,so have birmingham.i gave the valley rams book to a lad to read.the lad runs the often partisan website and does have some dealings with the club though not to do with travel.also he is involved in the supporters trust which is being set up.the lad has never been involved with hooliganism but thought some of the ideas like finding a pub with the police in the picture were great ideas.also the self policing struck home.the mentality which the rams had of we won,t cause trouble but will defend ourselves is a fair one.i think running on a pitch to celebrate a goal is a lot different to what that lad did the other night.what he did the other night stains his club big time.old school lads would also see it as the same as hitting a scarfer.not on.i couldn,t imagine a old school zulu doing it.the kid who did it to enkleman in 2002 wasn,t a zulu and tbf he goaded him really.still got 3months for a first offence.this leeds kid is looking at 1/2 year and a life ban.i,m glad we can walk up to a ground in peace these days and maybe have a drink with fans from other teams.i suppose the only problem with the new stadiams and new mentalities is the raised expectations of the newer fans .hope has been replaced by expectations which has been mugged by demand.saying it is the newer fans isn,t totally true.i,v saw 50/60yr old ready for the cardiac ward over a mis placed pass  the age we live in i,m afraid
