We were close to keeping our badge, or so it seems.
Let me explain, when the rebranding topic was first spoke about by the club officials to a group of fans at a meeting, we were shown a badge that is similar to the one that is now worn on the shirts today but at the first meeting I attended there was no bluebird on the badge and there were a few extra words 'Fire and Passion - will seize the day', picture the current badge with those words and that motto and you will imagine what the badge was that was shown to us.
Two days later the badge changed to have the bluebird on it but everything else remained the same, even the motto.
Then the kit was released and the motto had changed to 'Fire and Passion'.
Before the kit was released but after the two meetings I attended I spoke with Alan Whiteley, who was concerned about the vociferous opposition to the shirt and badge change.
I explained (or even pleaded) with Alan Whiteley that if we were to keep the badge that we have known for many years then I felt it would have gone a very long way to repairing the relationship between Vincent Tan and the majority of fans, I appreciated at the time not everyone would see it like that but I thinking was, if we kept the badge then that is what would appear at the the front of the house and on much of our memorabilia and in particular our away blue shirt would wear our badge.
Alan felt that a change of badge was totally out of the question, despite him very much liking some of the ideas that had been posted on here and facebook, he said it was too far down the line to introduce a new badge at that time to design and manufacture given the time-scales that were left but going forward it was a straight choice between our old badge or the new Dragon one.
After one particular conversation about keeping the badge I ended the conversation and I must say I was very optimistic, even though no promise was made, that we would keep our existing badge.
Obviously that never came to fruition sadly.
Now when the ADC parents and kids went down to the club just before the season start to be shown what training gear the kids would be playing in, all the gear had our original badge on it.
But the really interesting bit is that when the first lot of the red home kit arrived for the kids to play their games in, it came with the existing badge on it, Puma manufactured the replica kit with the badge that we have worn for many years.
Given that the first meetings with supporters took place in early May and these kits were not delivered for several months after that, how close were we to keeping the kit?
Or was the red shirt with the old badge going to be the away kit?
I honestly don't know the answer to those two questions but I do know that the club employed 10 seamstresses to stitch the new badge over the old one.
Seeing as the badge and the bluebird are hot topic on this board at the moment I thought it would be relevant to mention this.

Carl, don't forget the reason why "seize the day" was taken out

carl do you think the bluebird will be removed at the end of the season? and do you think we will change the badge like has been said before? im hoping we have a new nicer badge with the bluebird on it

It wouldn't hurt as much as it does if we kept our old badge. Although I think that the our traditional colour blue is far more important than the badge as blue was our identity. Most clubs in the UK have had badge changes and there has never been much fuss over it, if their team's colour changed however then it would be a huge deal, just like it has been for us.

My lad is an ADC player & I bought the training kit on the day it arrived. The shirt and shorts both have the original badge under the new one, which was just sewn on top. Might be worth a few quiid at some point methinks?!

So carl is the bluebird to remain next season and are the club listening to the fans or (trust) as we was told they would about the badge/colour this season for the comming season, clear this up for us as theres lots of if's, buts, maybes

I think its irrelevant now as we play in red without our badge.

Why do you think I would avoid it, I don't make the decisions.
The last I heard was there would be a forum of people to decide on the design of the badge for next season, I have not been told any different so I assume this is still the case.

Carl, that was under Allan Whitley, who I trusted to try his best for our fans and TG I feel tries the best he can, he was against the change of the badge.

Good news if true to hold the forum of people, can it be this forum

Interesting story, up to a point. But, they do what they want. There was no real opposition. Some people just walked away, rather than face the changes. The rest of us have just had to put up with it. End of story, I'm afraid. At least the egg chasers are gone.

Is it possible to have a different badge's on home and away kits? If it is then the club would have a great marketing oppotunity selling away (blue) shirts with the original badge on them.
I think this story simply highlights the fact a decision was taken long ago to rebrand us and there was no right of appeal or protest. The debate of the rebrand has been done to death but I quite like the idea of buying an away kit with the original badge on it.
