parking fine in Canton - HELP!

Wed Oct 10, 2012 4:13 pm

After leaving the ground after the Birmingham chuffed to bits to be top of the league I was brought back down to earth with a bump when i noticed a parking fine on my car! I was parked on the bit of grass opposite Canton rugby club. This was the first time i have driven to a game myself and as i have had lifts with people who have parked there the last few years i thought it would be ok (thought wrong!). There were loads of other cars also parked on the grass, all had tickets aswell.

Has this happened to anyone else recently and anyone got any ideas how to get out of it??? or am i gonna have to hold my hands up and pay the fine??

my friend had one last season but there were no signs saying not to park there. He ignored it and nothing has come of it :ayatollah:

Ignore it.It's probably Euro Parking or something or other they're called. They're down the Liberty, easpecially match days and like dishing them out.We had one 2 years ago and just ignored it til they fucked off.Im not 100% but it's only the council who can issue parking tickets and anyone else are just chancers.

if its from a private parking company, you dont have to pay it. if you ignore them they will go away and stop bothering you, it wont go to court and you will not get a CCJ.

see this for reassurance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3J-Xl6rSlk

if its council or police issued, then you either appeal it if you have valid grounds, otherwise you have to pay.

from your post it looks like a private parking company and therefore you dont need to pay it. if you post a topic on the pepipoo forum, they will give tell you what you need to do :ayatollah:

They were issued by the plastic cops mine in the exact place as yours and same day. If you read it they'll cut 50 percent of if you pay in the first 14 days. At the time I was more pissed of with the club for not providing sufficient parking what it will be like if we get to the prem god only knows .but when you pay it you are actually phoning the council.

Sometimes they get fussy about parking in the side streets too. I got a fine for the end of my car being beyond the junction by less than a foot.

I'd got away with it loads of times before, but it was a fair cop and I held my hands up.

don't do it any more though

This happened a few seasons ago when thecouncil had a clamp down.

I would say this is a council ticket so take it serious, they will chase you and it will not go away.

I had one a few seasons back and CHALLENGED IT & WON!

I had one for parking on the grass too and the ticket said causing unnecessary obstruction. It was from the police. I wrote to them and asked them can they tell me what exactly I was obstructing. I also mentioned that the ticket was inappropriately stuck to my driver side window which caused me an obstruction whilst driving home.

They replied and said they will look in to this. They did and a few weeks later they mailed me and said on this occasion we will not be fining me. (something along those lines).

CHALLENGE IT!

Always challenge it. The police and council are chancers as well. Most of the time you've done nothing wrong. They will happily stick it on your window knowing 9/10 people will just pay it to get it done with and out of the way.

If the ticket has a PNC number (usually starts with QC and has 8 numbers) then it is a council issued ticket. You either challenge the ticket on the grounds that it was improperly issued i.e. there were no signs or yellow lines or pay up before 14 days because after then the fine increases to £70.

Other than that the ticket has been issued by a private parking company and as advised by many above, simply ignore it.

if its from the council pay it or appeal it, dont ignore it. I did and thought i got away with it untill some jack bailiff company called at my house. He was a right tw*t and how i never kicked f**k out of him i dont know. The fine had now risen to 300 quid by him calling to the house, the knob had a clamp which he said he would use on my car with huge release fees, he said if he goes away and calls back its another 150 quid to make another call at the house it can quickly get out of controll. I called the police to see if he had the right to do what he was threatening and they confimed he could, at this point he showed me a warrent to enter my house at further cost and then remove goods at 10% of there value. So we are now up to about 450 quid so i stand to lose 4500 quids worth of goods what can you do.... It was 2pm and the kids where due home from school so just had to bite the bullet and pay the prick, not a very nice experience at all and a lesson learned for me. Good luck......

I have challenged 3 all together won 2 and lost one. Whether you are successful on challenging a ticket depends on you showing that the ticket was issued incorrectly. In fairness to the council they did allow some leeway with the 2 that I won so it is worth trying if you believe you have a case.

Check the ticket, I had one for parking under the bridge at the bottom of leckwith hill. Was going to pay but then noticed the cheeky b*stard had written on it that I was parked in a street about a mile away, appealed and got off.Well actually I had nothing to get off with, it was a stitch up.
