Grass-Root Football in Wales

Been thinking for a few days now about how much different the two main sports in Wales are run and should the FAW follow the WRU's foots steps in a few things. I know many of you hate the thought of going to a Rugby match or even the thought of rugby, but with the current set up of the main regional teams (Dragons, Blues, Scarlets, Ospreys) taking a pick of the players in their area, instead of having a select 30 man squad like in English Premiership, do you feel the Welsh Football Association should follow suit of that in the Welsh Premier.

I ask this as it came to my attention that the English FA are now driving coaches and more people into Grass-Roots football with this new St. Georges Football Center being the base. As a coach of an Under 14's football team, and a captain of a Grass-Roots team in Port Talbot, I feel grass-root football is forgotten about and not appreciated enough in this country. Players & Coaches feel as if the more popular sides in the area will get the benefits if any were to come about. 2 weeks ago, 2 Cardiff City scouts arrived at my Under 14's league match, just because we were playing Afan Lido.

Now this frustrates me as I feel they are only there to watch the Afan Lido kids as they have a much bigger advantage over our kids due to funding, and more money from their senior team. Why I go on about this, and why I mentioned the 4 rugby regions is simple. I feel EVERY grass roots football team would be much better off if the Welsh Premier League were to get a "pick who you want" opportunity from teams in the lower leagues. This would give players much more to play for, plus would give scouts from the English Leagues a better opportunity to actually pick certain players who they want. Big wages wouldn't have to get paid as players would be on a more or less pay as you play contract.

My question is, do you think Grass-root football is forgotten about in this country?

The FAW need to do something about it. That's the reason great players aren't being scouted. I've played with and against some fabulous players at a younger level who maybe could have had a future in the game
