' David Marshall has warning for table-topping Cardiff City '

“We haven’t achieved a thing yet.”

CARDIFF City stand top of the Championship and well ahead of schedule in their quest for promotion to the Premier League... but the strong dressing room message is: “We haven’t achieved a thing yet.”

Leicester City took over as leaders with a 2-0 home win against Bristol City, a fifth consecutive victory for the Foxes, before Cardiff regained number one spot a couple of hours later.

The Bluebirds lead the way again after their two-goal away win against Ipswich Town and goalkeeper David Marshall said: “Many teams believe an average of two points per game is the target for anybody challenging for promotion and we are just above that average.

“But we are also only 10 matches into the season and there is a long, long way to go. We have to stay focused and stick together as a squad. Everybody will be needed if we are to maintain our challenge.

“We are on a good run with six wins from our last seven matches and our squad is capable of maintaining the challenge. That was again underlined at Portman Road with Don Cowie back in the team and Craig Conway making such a difference when he went on.

“Craig’s work in training has been brilliant. He shows every day how much he wants to play and grabbed his chance at Ipswich. It’s been the same with Don. Their attitude has been different class.

“Rudy Gestede is fit again after injury and he also made an impact from the bench and it’s that squad factor which will get us through tough times over the season.

“Those players were a massive influence for us in the second half.”

City have earned 22 points from 10 matches and now have two of their next three matches at home. They follow a trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday week, immediately after the international break, by entertaining Watford and then Burnley.

Marshall stepped forward to accept responsibility for the Ipswich goal just before half-time, saying: “Matt (Connolly) and I each thought the other one would clear. It was my ball, though, and I should have dealt with it. We were 10 seconds away from going in at 0-0. Nobody was happy with the team display or the scoreline at half-time, but the subs went on and made a difference.”

The goal scored by Ipswich was clearly handled by home striker DJ Campbell as he turned a cross into the net from close range and Marshall added: “I didn’t see how it went in, but the cross should have been dealt with and we will make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Marshall has now joined up with the Scotland squad and will be back at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday for their World Cup game against Wales.

Marsh is a great shot stopper but has always been dodgy with corners and crosses into the box.
People can slate DJ Marradona all they want but the truth is the ball shouldn't of reached him anyways.

I thought this was going to read "watch out I may even leave my goal-line" - great shot stopper, like a rabbit in headlights at any deadball or cross :?

Just doesn't seem to want to claim the area as his - at fault for Ipswich's handball goal on Saturday, the goalkeeper sees everything in front of him and must command the area as his own. I know I'm ranting now but to me he only catches balls that go right to him.

Perhaps a bit of training with the eggshell defence coach Shaun Edwards might up his physical confidence, who knows?

Wasnt his fault it was Hudson and Connoly's. Hudsons should have made the tackle but missed compeltely and Connoly ducked under the cross leaving it to hit DJ Campbell

Yeah it is but its the defenders job to defend, I'm not saying he wasnt at fault and I do agree he's not commanding enough at corners but not many goalkeepers are these days. But the blame has to go soley at both centre halves they both made mistakes for the goal
