When we play the lesser teams

Mon Oct 08, 2012 3:36 pm

Someone in another thread has made a great point in that we have beaten quality top half of the table opposition so far.

We are known for struggling against the lesser teams and I believe we need to be playing a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with Bellamy wide left and Noone on the right or Smith with Helguson in the middle so you could call it a 4-3-2-1.

I see no reason for us to go and play against lesser teams with a 4-5-1. We have ripped apart quality opposition this season, some of whom will be considered promotion rivals and we need to carry that same threat with us against weaker opposition.

Obviously it all comes down to what happens on the day and a team may perform above a level it thought it could reach but we should give ourselves the best chance by going into the game attack minded trying to put 3 or 4 goals on these teams.

So who are the "lesser" teams in this league? there's no gimmies in this league, anyone can beat anyone, no such thing as lesser teams, all as tough as one another in there own right. Idiot

No need for that.

You know who I mean by lesser teams. I never said any team was easy either but when we play the likes of Derby and Charlton we will be expected to win in comparison to games vs Leicester, Blackpool, etc which are much closer and tenser affairs usually. Its not hard to distinguish surely.

So they aint capable of beating all the other teams in this league? Like I said! No gimmies in this league. who's to say the teams we have played won't end up down the bottom half of the table come end of season. Take it one game at a time and treat every game asif it was a top of the table clash. All this "lesser" team bollox is a load of crap. Maybe that's what's tripped us up in previous seasons, underestimating teams just because they are below us. We have just as much right to lose against peterboro as we do leicester.

Yes, a Charlton side who went away and beat Blackpool, and Barnsley side who put 5 past Birmingham on their travels.

This division anyone can beat anyone.

It is difficult not to argue that that some teams are stronger than others e.g. Leicester versus Peterborough.
However, results show that there no walkover games in the Championship and there is rarely certainty over the result of any fixture.
In previous seasons we have slipped up badly against teams in the lower half of the table and certainly drawn too many games when we needed wins.
Whilst he got a lot wrong, Dave Jones was right when he said we had no divine right to beat other teams.
The only way to look at the fixtures is to treat each and every one as a battle and to hope that the tactics will be right and that the class of individual players in the squad will come through and make the difference which is what CCFC have been showing so far.
We have also so far ground out results e.g. Ipswich and Huddersfield in a way that is most unlike previous years. We should expect to have to do much more of this this season whether against teams at the top or bottom.
If this pays off consistently we will be there or thereabouts.

There was a similar thread to this one last week. In that thread most posters urged MM to abandon the defensive approach away from home and simply attack everyone in every game.

I'm a disciple of that approach and I think the second half on Saturday went a long way to proving the point.

20 minutes out of 90 we dominated. I would like to see us doing it the other way round when we are on the road.

Why?

Win your games at home and Draw games away from home will get you promoted. (ok in reality we will lose a few games, but then we will also win a few away games too.) I don't see us losing many games at home all season if im honest.

Go as we are..... consistently, and I'll be happy.

We aren't going to win pretty in all our victories, some will have to be ground out til the very last minute.

No argument from me.

There is some sense in that approach but I do worry that our luck in scoring these last minute goals might runout.
