Neutrals view of the rebranding

Mon Oct 08, 2012 8:17 am

I went to the game Saturday with a mate who lives on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, he loves football, Has a soft spot for Norwich and Man Utd but would'nt call himself a supporter of either club. We got onto the subject of the re-brand, as we were standing there amongst the City fans in the Railway Tavern in Ipswich, there was a smattering of red and blue shirts there. I said, it still feels very odd and most of us are still trying to figure out why it happened and what are the positives in terms of financial benefit etc.
He then said, well it's completely logical giving the circumstances! I looked at him slightly quizically and he then argued that if you put yourself in Tans place, a billionaire who lives the other side of the world, who understands nothing about football or its traditions, who will sit in a boardroom being advised by his people and so it's logical that if your marketing people are telling you that Red and the Dragon seems the most logical colour and symbol for a team from Wales to play in with the added bonus that the two have such a strong image in Asia, then to them it's a no brainier!

All done to death on here now.

It's happened, and there will be no going back while we have Malaysian owners.

I have "begrudgingly" accepted it. (and lets face it, all still going have too)

Onwards and "upwards" hopefully.

I guessing you mean soul not sole. dont know what shoes or fish have to do with it.

And how can a Cardiff fan be a glory hunter?? If we even get promoted, chances are we will come straight back down, could be about 30 years until they are able to challenge for a league trophy even with Tans millions.

But as you said your mate likes Norwich and Man Ure so he does not know what it is like to completely support one club when he has not got his heart in either club. So in my view he has no view on our predicament. :ayatollah:

Your totally correct, its not to say either view is right or wrong, it was just a view from someone who was looking at the situation from a totally dispassionate position. We are all aware of how we feel as supporters, I just thought it was interesting to hear someones view of the whole situation, a view that he has come to from what he has heard from the media at large. He hasn't had debate after debate for months on end like us lot, he is just looking at it as a business decision that someone has taken.

if you don,t follow a team it is easy to look at it in a detached way.

i agree !!!
Other fans will make comments as they are all shocked at what has happened at our club and are probably worried something as insanse could happen at their own club, apart from us being a laughing stock around the football world in general due to the vandalism of our heritage :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

Re: Neutrals view of the rebranding

Many comments here, on both sides, I agree with.

Hate the badge more than the shirt as I always loved the bluebird, with dragon and daffodil, crest.

Hopeful of a return to blue (very hard to watch, and confusing against Birmingham).

Other people have no idea of football when they support the "big" 4 teams as they do not understand history and tradition (imo). Just glory hunting, want to be part of something important, as it makes them feel important.

But, the investment may not have happened, and what club would have turned down that sort of money to keep their traditional colours (Leeds did it for no money remember)?

Is it a loan or is it a gift? Only time will tell.

VT's reasoning as outlined in op, seems logical to me (as it always has) red dragon and red shirts, are symbols of both Wales and asia, so he thought no problem.

Agree it is getting boring discussing it now. Maybe in 2 years when all is sorted (hopefully) we can discuss again, with facts and hindsight, instead of rumours and maybes.

did you have a view on j/t and anton?global game these days.i,m a neutral who goes to football.season ticket holder at blues.not met one person who agrees with it and that,s from blues, villa,ww,wba ,man utd etc.the lack of fight has astounded people.i accept that no one else are in your shoes but that doesn,t mean they cannot see the nightmare if it happened at their clubs.i,d rather drag my nuts over broken glass than have a first team kit of red at birmingham.the shirt selling in asia is only ever going to happen big time if you win the prem and do well in the champ league.
