NATHAN CLEVERLY will defend his WBO title at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 10.
Light-heavyweight Cleverly was due to put his belt on the line at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena later this month.

But the October 27 show was scrapped when promoter Frank Warren offered the Welshman the chance to impress Stateside.

Cleverly, who is waiting to discover who he will box on the Golden Boy card, said: “At only 25 it’s a dream come true to defend my world title in America on such a big show.

“It takes my career to a whole new level and is a golden opportunity to make a big statement that I’m the leading man in the light-heavyweight division.”

The maths graduate had a taste of the American dream when he fought on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe’s clash with Bernard Hopkins in April 2008.

He defeated Antonio Baker on points in Las Vegas and cannot wait to reacquaint himself with the US of A.

Clev added: “It will be exciting and challenging to get the recognition of the American fans and media and prove to them that I’m the real thing.

“Of course, I love fighting and headlining in front of my Cardiff home fans, but this shows that I’m not scared to leave my home comforts and risk my title by putting it on the line in another country.

“That’s what being a world champion is all about and I relish the challenge. It’s a big test in my career, but I’m ready and won’t be overawed.

“I think that this will give my performance a sharper edge because I’m not at home and the pressure to perform will be on me.”

Warren has total faith that his man will do the business across the pond.

The SunSport columnist said: “I’m delighted that Nathan has got the opportunity to showcase his talent in America at this stage of his career.

“He’s eager to show the American fans what he’s made of and a win will set up big unification fights next year.”

With the plug pulled on the show in Cardiff, Frankie Gavin’s challenge for Junior Witter’s British weltwerweight title will now headline a Frank Warren Promotions show at London’s iconic York Hall on November 1.

And Enzo Maccarinelli’s Commonwealth light-heavyweight championship clash with Ovill McKenzie has been added to the Queensberry Promotions show at Liverpool Olympia on November 9.

Its not ideal by any stretch gents, especially for the Welsh fans who were planning on attending, but this was too good an opportunity to turn down especially since it's going to get Clev massive exposure in America.

It's a much bigger opportunity for Nath. I was speaking to him security guard and his old man and for Nath to get the best fighters he needs to travel. Get the publicity and get himself well known the defend a massive title against a massive opponent and have it in Wales instead of fighting an unknown Ukraine boxer. Massive decision that was made but if your a clev fan in the long run its the best decision

I agree that he should officially apologise but it's not like he's cancelled the day before or even week before. It's 3 weeks until the fight and it's a big opportunity for a man whose career isn't that long. I don't blame him for making this change. Got to grab these chances when they come in this life. Theres a presser on Monday so further details will be announced then gents. That was when it was supposed to be anounced officially but it got leaked early and hence why Nathan hasnt said too much about it in general.

Genuinely sorry to hear that...i'm in the same boat to even though i live in cardiff. I have also laid out £££ for a hotel. Hopefully find out the cancellation policy later and hoping for a refund....
