" CARDIFF CITY WAS ALWAYS KNOWN FOR ONE THING? (forget the trouble as we were small fry in the early 80's/90s even though we did have a lot of lads and were the best in the lower divisions) CRAP TEAM 'BUT' SUPERB AWAY SUPPORT/ SO WHERE HAS IT GONE ? "

" Edited WE HAVE SOLD BARELY 200, INCLUDING 50 COMPS IF THEY TURN UP. UPDATED 8pm. "
You can pay on the day. :ayatollah:

Its more than just the rebranding in my opinion, of course some of the blame lies with it, but I honestly believe it is more than just the rebranding.

Were taking less than 400 fans to Ipswich, WE are top of the league, yes its live, but its on a Saturday, Vince Alm has to even virtually beg fans to go.

I will just say this, Ive been to Colchester 25 mins from Ipswich, with 1,500 Cardiff fans on a Friday night Division 4,I went to Colchester on a Saturday Div 3 with approx 1,600 Cardiff fans and in the Carling Cup 1st or 2nd rd on midweek night game with just under 400 Cardiff fans. We are now top of the Championship on our way to the Premiership, I am not going tomorrow. I now go when I feel like it, before it was like a drug following Cardiff for over 40 years, I followed City the length and breath of the country, Darlington and Hartlepool, approx 7 times each Ive been there with Cardiff and we took 1,500 to places like there.

Dont get me wrong when we were 2nd from bottom of Division 4, Ive been away with 11 City fans to Gillingham and 50 to Preston on night games. But were now top of the Championship.

Up to everyone to make their own opinions.
Little Blackpool brought over 550 fans to us last week, a long long way.

Just a quick comment.
Before the rebranding we lost a lot of old faces.
There were recessions in the late 80's & 90's.

Personally the biggest blame is football has out priced its self and the buzz has gone for many fans, just my opinion.

Quite simply - with three tickets for each game, I can't afford it at the moment and with one son training on Saturday mornings and playing Sundays, he is reluctant to miss that too.

Money, weather, passion, outpriced theres many things it can be blamed on i will go as far as say some old reg heads who never miss games dont go every week now for there own reasons. Many many things to why are away gates are down, same as home. But 400 aint bad for ipswich tbh seems its on sky :ayatollah:

I just don't think people have the money, I certainly don't have the money I had 5 years ago.

People had more money and Trips seemed to be cheaper back them as well.

I think Rams were £15? Now everything has gone up for travel be it coach or train.
Tickets, someone mentioned £30 for Ipswich? That's a huge inflation from a few years ago.

I think the forum coach is £25? Ticket £30 so that's £55 that's for one before you pay for food and drink etc.

It would cost me over £100 easily as I'd have to get a taxi to the coach as well.
It just means I pick and chose what games I go to now.

Bristol was ideal, decent price tickets and cheap train and it was shown as it old out :ayatollah:

I was chatting to jack yesterday and hes been going for years. He said the further up the league's swansea have gone the less he can afford to attend away games.
If i go to an away game im looking at around 80 to 100 quid and thats without food a beer or two.
Not worth it really..

Re: " CARDIFF CITY WAS ALWAYS KNOWN FOR ONE THING? "

Cost mate, ticket prices are ridiculous, plus some people, me for example don't like to go on a coach, not wanting to cause offence to anyone but whenever I have rarely travelled on coach it's a bit clicky. so fuel in the car restricts me, I drove to the colchester friday game you mentioned couldn't now.

Annis , I use to love them days to. in the early 90,s the 1927 club had over 200 members, and ipwich would have been a big turn out for the 1927 club. But most of them have said sod it, and thats down to the rebrand. Cardiff City are top of the the div and have got a group of players that can take us up this time, but crowds are down home and away and lets not blame the recession all other club who are top of their div see an increase in crowds. I don,t give a shit about other clubs crowds being down because they are not top. leeds, brum, notts forest and derby have been middle of the road this season and would expect to see a drop in fans. And also this crap about record shirts sale, no way has the club shop sold over 8000 red shirts. I don,t go now home or away and will not till we return to blue. As they they say ( the 1927 club are taffies for a day they on surport the city when west ham play away). Bluebirds always

Football has out priced itself but few clubs are getting the message and for so many people life is about setting priorities and football is no longer value for money.

I remember during the Durban years we had a run of about one win in I think 18 games but still we took more than double that to the likes of Darlington. I remember us losing 4-1 there after playing crap, again, and facing the long journey home but all we would talk about was the next game. I honestly believe that back then the fans lived for the club or it seemed like that at least. Back in those days the motorways were not like they are today, the m42 for instance was only half finished so Darlington was a real drag.

But a few weeks later we were off to Walsall, Fellows Park, and that was a real pit but although we hadn't won in ages there were loads there. We lost 6-3 and whilst it was a shorter drive home we were talking about the next game believing we would win it.

I still enjoy watching the city but be it my age or whatever I just haven't got that level of interest anymore. Certainly at close on £100 every away game over a season that's a good holiday and at my age I'll take the holiday. :old:

Its shit Annis, last season I went to Notts Forrest NYE on a private bus.

We got kept in a country lane for a good hour and a half by the OB and only got there just in time for KO
just to be harrased by stewards every 10 seconds and having video recorders pointed at us.

Thats an every away day occurrence now. The fun has gone. You have to stop 20 miles before your destination
to have a few beers these days.

Re: " CARDIFF CITY WAS ALWAYS KNOWN FOR ONE THING? "

Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:26 pm

Thank god i'm quite lucky with work so it is not the recession for me, although I think for most fans this is the main problem, for me the rebranding is killing me. I've always looked on the city from a personal view and believed it was MY club and i belonged to it, but these new owners have stuck a knife right in my back and are starting to even twist it. I'll be at forest and most other away matches, but for difficult ones like ipswich which is live on the box its a different matter and will unfortunately be giving it a miss.

Totally agree with this also.

i'd hazard a guess that many of our fans who have stopped since the RB started in the 80's and now just arent so into the way modern footbll is, partic away games which used to be all about fun, maybe with a bit of bother but usually just a laugh. Thats not the way it is now isit. The atmospheres all different, most probably liked the edgeyness and intimidation factor that came with away games back then. We did have big followings after all, maybe a quarter of our home attendance wud go away? Police hassle and Expense are obviously others, its ridiculous even if u have the $$$$$ it might well be better spent with the family or a night out. The authorities have made it this way i believe so people dont bother anymore. :old:

Remember reading the jacks opening game last season away to Man City was £55
Is the promised land all what it seems ? Or would you rather go to these small towns like Nailsworth what we had pre season ?
Me I loved that and so did everyone that I was with.

Apart from the landlord in the Hunters Hall. Sorry, he was the manager, not the landlord, which was his reason for not wanting to give John Bishop a meal.

That was the kind of day out we hope for every time - and the weather - but we just seem to come up against so many jobsworths who enjoy spoiling things, at home and away.

I drove to that game and we had a great time - amazing how peoples experiences are different. Parked at trent bridge and the kids were shown around by a very friendly attendant and were allowed to take photos all over the test match ground. And we won and were back home by about 8pm.

Its nothing to do with the rebrand

Society has changed, not just football. I know some people find it hard to believe, but it is quite acceptable in this day and age to spend time with your family at a weekend. People have other things to do and other ways of spending their leisure time.

A day trip to Ipswich is going to take a huge chunk out of your weekend - basically all day Saturday and not back till the wee small hours of Sunday morning. If you work (and working people are the only ones who can afford to go regularly anyway), then the thought of spending a large chunk of your weekend on the motorway is not exactly something to look forward to.

I'm pretty sure its our furthest away trip this year. The game is live on SKY, and we have a worse record against Ipswich in recent years than just about any other team. Add in the general economic situation and I think 400 is pretty good.

the buzzz as gone! i dont get that buzz now but still come down 99% games but away games cost is for me crazy roughly £100 all told! its economics mostly i feel that reduces turnouts from cardiff to go away is what a basic £60 who can afford that ???? :(
done the 50 fans at southend bit

Fair play to you. Iv been to Forest loads of times now, normaly drink by trent bridge in the pub there, think it was called Larwood and Volce. Always found the stewards to be well over the top up there though but the Police used to be fair. Just an example, I reckon individual travel is the way forward, but you need a driver, and if you are with lads who all want a drink its a no go and you end up in situations like the one I described as the Police just treat you as risk supporters.

Annis, I returned from Sparta Prague vs Athletic Bilboa today cost of flight £28, match ticket €18. For me, even from Reading to Ipswich a 3 and half hour journey that would cost me more than my European games, so this season away games are very selective and each away match that I don't attend money goes into my European fund top of the table or not.
Tomorrow for me my 5th FA Cup match of the season Didcot vs Maidenhead then home to watch the match.
See you against Watford
